I have been coming to Breaker's for around thirty years, since the mid-'80s. So I have seen the management and staff change, while staying within the same extended family as far as the ownership is concerned.
The food is quite good, with reasonable portions and flexibility in the preparation. Substitutions have never been a problem for me when requested.
The servers are all quite personable, remember my preferences and are responsive when refills of coffee ( which I find to be rather excellent ) etc. are needed. Even the busboys and cooks will hold a brief conversation with you if you make the effort, when they have a spare moment.
It can get busy at lunchtime, especially on weekends ( I have personally seen the line stretching out the front door on many occasions ). There is outdoor, dog-friendly seating which helps with the overflow, but if you want a booth on a weekend it is best to avoid the rush, which seems to happen between 11:30 and 1:00 or so. Counter seating is available but not extensive.
Restrooms are perfectly adequate if not fancy, go through the kitchen at the rear and take a left at the hallway, following the signage.
I have to dock a star because some of the indoor tables are somewhat wobbly, and the floor seems to be subject to an undue amount of vibration. I wish it were not so as it truly pains me to lower the rating on that account, but it does detract from the experience and I never sit at the indoor tables as a result.
Not much more to add except the old adage, " You get what you pay for, " applies here. If you want a $4.00 "slam" of dubious quality and indifferent service, the franchise chain restaurant with the big yellow sign out front ( which I have patronized on quite a few occasions ) will undoubtedly take your money. Breaker's offers a superior experience, and the cost is not at all unreasonable for what they have offered for over...
Read moreIf you are looking for a place that feels like you matter & are treated like family...support your local Breaker's Cafe. The owner told me business is building back and is optimistic that things will return to "busy". Each time I go and have my little breakfast, I enjoy the welcomes from the wait staff and the owner. He jumps in and helps with customers and is never one to sit back and "watch" while the staff works. He appreciates everyone and greets his customers by name. Today, a woman came in (obviously a regular customer) and he said asked "would you like your tea?". That's what the value of supporting a local business is about and we need to make sure we do our part to support a business that shows they value their customers. Lets help Breaker's back to being a busy...
Read moreI am fond of this place for a quick bite. They'll make you anything breakfast related and more.. Eggs, potatoes, hash browns, country fried potatoes, pancakes ,sausage , bacon, you name it. Coffee and espresso drinks are served as well. Donuts, danishes and muffins are on display up front. Always greeted with friendly and professional staff. However, their Biscuits and Gravy was slightly disappointing. The buttery and flaky biscuit I expected was spongy and lifeless. The gravy was sticky thick and lacked flavor. Conveniently located on Woodside Road in Redwood City near Rite Aid and Ace Hardware...
