There seems to be something about "hip and cool'" places with "I can be a server!"in their 20's that have never received any type of "this is how to be a server, really", training.
Because if you, the customer, don't look like them, they just don't seem to be able to see you, they will walk around you, bump into you, but good God don't ask you if you would like to be seated, I think they think they will explode if they see you, pathetic.
Tried their version of Eggs Benedict, I did substitute avocado for the Canadian bacon, have done this for years so know how it tastes - or should.
They don't use English muffins, rather their own bread. So, you get these tiny little squares of un-toasted bread, with a favor that just doesn't work, but great if you want a strange unidentified flavor that is squishy in your mouth. I asked specifically if the Hollandaise sauce is made correctly, egg yolk, clarified butter, little cayanne pepper, hand whipped, told yes, asked if it is whipped to a consistent thickness, not a thin soupy, told yes they use cream, told her no you don't, that isn't how it is made, she says I really don't know how it is done - review the part about server training above - it is more than just taking an order and hoping to get it to the right table and then ask so who had the whatever.
Back to the EB, avocado was ripe. That was the highlight. Already discussed the bread - ugh. Egg was too runny, yes you want some run, but really not barely poached.
And the Hollandaise sauce. Well really can't tell you what it tastes like, when they put so little on and then it melts, yeah- it really melted into a butter shine - and you end up with no sauce only a shine that might just be a brush of butter, just can't say it is Hollandaise sauce.
Tried a blueberry pancake, not even worth the time to tell how disappointing it was, but it was.
Tried a piece of Bourbon flavored French toast. It was very good. Slight crunch to the outside, moist inside, very good flavor. Very enjoyable.
Potato's, sort of home fries, without anything other than last week's onions sauteed to the seventh layer of hell, beyond anything recognizable as being from the plant kingdom, but BUT!! the whole pile is really oily so your not gonna want to eat it anyway.
They don't offer Tabasco sauce, because, apparently, people just don't use this off brand unknown startup company sauce with eggs.
My server was nice, although clueless, (management issue), did check on me a few times.
Would I return? Why would I or anyone do that, oh yeah, the review that I read that tricked me into trying out this place - must have been a paid review - said it was a local inexpensive favorite spot. Not inexpensive (not pricey) and could only be a favorite of those without transportation to go...

On a googling whim, I found this eatery in search of large portions and tater tots and could not wait to try their loaded tater tots. Upon entering, I spied a small bar with roughly 5 stools and two sets of dining areas. Simply, it is much larger inside than the outside shows. First, I went here twice within the month, just to see how consistent the service/food was. My first visit was great from the personable server, I forget his name but he was a white male with facial hair. He appeared knowledgeable of the menu and definitely suggested I try the tots. While eating, I battled with a fruit flies to make sure it didn't go into my drink or land in my food. By the way, don't order the margarita. I'd suggest 86ing that item off of the menu, because it tasted like some type of juice and water. After my meal, I walked Grant park to bask in my post-meal bliss.
The second time I went, I came with a friend. With my suggestion, she ordered the tots and they were still phenomenal. Our meal came promptly and was hot. I love the spice. Again, we battled with fruit flies. It was kind of a running joke. Was a bit let down by the server, who was not my previous server. Just would like to be checked on more, because we surely wanted to wash down the delicious food with more cocktails. No worries, we chose to walk to a nearby store and grab a few for the house.
Honorable mentions: Great freaking Bojack Horseman Piece of Art. Street/Residential Parking...
Read moreI live in a nearby neighborhood and decided to give this place a try after reading the reviews; and I also try to support local businesses. I came in for takeout on a Monday evening and the hostess was nice. she recommended a few dishes and I ordered about 4 items. After I paid, I waited for them and I happen to get a look directly into the kitchen. The cook wasn't wearing a mask or gloves. Now, I know the mask topic is debatable (although I would prefer whoever is cooking my food to not be breathing over it) but gloves are a legal mandate for food service workers. I notified the hostess and asked if she could tell him to put gloves on. She says, "Oh it's just easier for him to cook without them but he washes his hands." ...Uh, it's easier? Well, of course it is but it's against the law!! Hello! She was super sweet and honest in her response. I don't even think she thinks she said anything wrong. I guess I'm just supposed to trust that he's washing his hands after touching every surface and never cross contaminating. I saw him touch a bag of raw chicken wings then grab a piece of bread from the toaster. This was enough for me to never come back to this establishment. Staff is nice but this business isn't clean. Even with me doing this for a living, I try to give restaurants some grace when I'm not working. We're all human so we can't be perfect all the time; but not wearing gloves is a...
