I ordered a vegetarian black bean burrito and got one with meat in it. The staff were kind and I'm sure would have remade the burrito if I had asked, but I was in a rush so I picked out the chunks of meat as I ate on the gorgeous outdoor patio. In my position, a small helping of steak crammed at one end of the burrito would have been ideal, yet I found a very significant portion evenly distributed throughout the burrito. Again, this was an inconvenience to me, but I could not help but empathize with those among us who eat meat and be impressed by El Tesoro's steak burrito construction. I've attached a picture of the steak that I picked out of the burrito, with the pink 32 ounce Nalgene water bottle that I took from my climbing gym's lost and found bucket, washed, and filled at one of the free water coolers by El Tesoro's entrance for reference.
06/06/25: I’ve decided to make this a longitudinal study. I returned to El Tes one time between my original review and this visit. I’ve ordered the same thing each time: a black bean burrito with lettuce. My only qualm with last visit is that it was wrapped sort of loose, but overall still a really wonderful burrito. 8.5/10, as far as black bean burritos with lettuce go. Today, we very nearly hit perfection. The tortilla was a nice balance of pliable, soft, and crispy. The medium hot sauce - a major upgrade to the experience - was wonderfully refreshing and flavorful, and I enjoyed that there were visible bits of cilantro in it. The guys sitting behind me were talking about new research into the male hormone cycle, while a pack of business casual clad fintech bros somehow made it off the set of a Tim Robinson sketch to Lime Scooter across the patio in front of me. This is exactly what I’m looking for when I come to the Beltline. My only, ONLY issue was that the rice was a little too...
Read moreAs someone who has been anxiously awaiting more decent food options on this side of town I was excited to hear about el Tesoro. I’ve been to their Kirkwood location a handful of times and really enjoyed it.
Unfortunately it didn’t meet any of my expectations.
Are things only allowed to come to Lee and White? Is there no other retail space in the entire area? Please!! Someone branch out. The service was super slow. I arrived to a small line (about 5 customers). It still took over 30 minutes to order. Then over 30 minutes to get that food. Over an hour total. Would hate to see it with a crowd. They were sold out of most menu items. I ordered the quesadilla (mulita) and a kids quesadilla for my daughter. The cheese wasn’t even melted. Even after all the time. It was disappointing- especially bc I’ve ordered before in Kirkwood and it’s always melty and gooey. My husband ordered his burrito supreme style - we paid extra for it and none of the supreme extras...
Read moreImpressively bad. We ordered some kinda quesadilla thing, but it was the worst thing I've ever eaten to the point that I wasn't even mad. Apparently onec of the managers or someone overheard my wife and I talking about how absolutely horrible this thing was, and he offered to give us something else, but there was no chance that we were going to try anything else off that menu when such a basic dish came out so incredibly horrible. The manager basically just said "it's not for everyone" which is not a great response to serving such awful food.... however he was super nice and understanding and even grateful for our honest feedback, so I honestly appreciate that level of customer service.
But still.... holy geez was that food bad....we didn't even ask for a refund because we were so impressed with how terrible the food was because we took it as a learning experience on our part....
