General synopsis(If you don't want to read all this): WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. 2 1/2- 3 STARS at best.
Context: My roommate and I were looking for a way to take a break from the hassle of meal prepping and coming up with healthy meals for ourselves. So, she found Meals by Melissa online and we tried it for a month.
Pros + Cons of MY experience: PROS: I liked the fact that she had the option for a monthly subscription plan (a lot of places only offer weekly or single orders). The monthly prices were okay (my roommate and I split it) Delivery was on point and I was always able to contact and get a relatively quick response. One week she forgot our meals and when I contacted her she was very nice about it, admitted she had missed our order and came up with a solution quickly (my roommate and I aren't people who usually make a big deal out of things, we get stuff happens). CONS: The food was just alright at best. Sometimes the food was good and other times it tasted like it had been frozen for a while and was just warmed up. Although, we liked the monthly option, we did not like the fact that we had to pay the whole lump some up front, because if anything went wrong we already paid her, putting us at a disadvantage. So the week she forgot our meals was the week before our subscription was supposed to end, and I happen to be out of town. My roommate picked up the orders from delivery and put the food away. Unfortunately, she didn't count the amount of meals there was like I normally do. Per the monthly plan, we were supposed to get 10 meals each. When got back home, I didn't check until later that's when I realized she did not give us our last four meals. I kindly reached out to her, and she ghosted me. Read moreI was told my order would be delivered between 2–4 PM on Sunday, but it didn’t arrive until almost 10 PM. I tried to be understanding since delays happen, but the real disappointment came once I opened the package. The food quality was extremely poor and not what I ordered. One meal was completely missing, and the ones I did receive looked like leftover scraps thrown together.
I reached out, provided Melissa with photos, and asked for a refund, but I never even received an apology, just a message saying she could send another order. But at that point, why would I want more food from the same company who would send something out with such poor quality ? The broccoli wasn’t even cooked. She also told me she could not give me a cash-back refund and accused me of tampering with the food, even though I had paid for the meals with my card and had no reason to purposely sabotage myself from not having meals to eat for lunch this week.
I had high hopes for this service and wanted to make it part of my monthly meal plan, but after this experience, I can’t recommend it. 0/10 experience.
To make matters worse, I posted an honest review on her site, and she deleted it. That shows a serious lack of professionalism and accountability as deleting negative reviews means you’re falsely advertising your business. This wasn’t a case of me simply not liking the taste; the quality of the food itself was poor. I don’t know if my order was forgotten, but given that it arrived at 9:53 PM on a Sunday, it certainly seemed like something was hastily thrown together last minute.

Read moreI usually hate to leave bad reviews, but sometimes it is needed. I ordered from MealsbyMelissa and received the wrong order during pickup. I did reach out to her, and she apologized and was quick to fix the issue (which was good) I was offered a voucher for my next meals which I took. I decided to pick up again but missed the first pick up because the “order ready” email was sent out exactly at the time during the pickup time, so I was not prepared to pick it up last minute. I decided to go that Monday for pickup but waited 35 minutes DURING the scheduled pickup time. I called with no answer and texted but no response so I decided to leave because of an appointment already made. I was very Frustrated from the situation and was met with no apology but only a “you paid for these meals come get them, if you try to report to your bank I have proof” just crazy!!
