I contacted this business via email the evening of March 24th about having a cake made for my mother's birthday as I was put in charge of getting a cake last minute. They quickly responded (that evening) that they would be able to make one for me.

I mentioned I saw a $45 cake on their website that was strawberries and cream and inquired about the serving size that would be. Once confirming it would be big enough for everyone attending our family gathering I placed the order.

I asked about picking it up and was told they would deliver it for free if I lived in the area. I do live in the area so there was not delivery fee. I also asked if it would be available Saturday morning and they said they could deliver it between 10 am and noon. I asked if we might be able to push the delivery time closer to 1 pm as I realized I would be out that morning. They said that would be fine.

Around 1:20 pm when I hadn't seen them I emailed back leaving my phone number as I realized I didn't provide it in any of our earlier correspondence. I also tried calling but got their voicemail. I left a voicemail with my number as well. They showed up around 1:30 pm ( not a big deal) and she took a picture of me holding the box with the cake in it.

I did not open it at that time as I had met her outside and it was windy. Once inside I opened the box and noticed the cake was just plain (picture attached). On their website it said the cake would be garnished with fresh strawberries (website description screenshot attached) which is why I didn't ask for any extra writing or anything on it.

By that time I needed to head to the gathering and I knew there wouldn't be enough time to fix it so I emailed the company to notify them that my cake was not completed as described on the website with the fresh strawberries garnish. I also called and left them a voicemail and asked them to call me back. I waited until today (Monday the 29th of March) thinking maybe they had a busy weekend. When I still had not heard from them by this evening I decided to post this review.

While the cake being delivered not completed with the strawberry garnish was disappointing I was more upset about the lack of communication after I voiced my displeasure with the final product. They were great at communicating to get me to place the order and sending me an invoice to pay but once they delivered the cake I feel (based on their lack of response) they felt the transaction was done despite them not completing their end of the deal.

I can't say I would recommend this bakery for a special occasion cake. While the cake was decent (the icing had a strong taste of stick butter more than a white chocolate flavor but the cake was pretty good) it was an underwhelming experience...

I don’t think I could recommend Cake Hag to anyone I know. We ordered a Wedding Cake and a Grooms Cake, and each of them had a problem.

Our Groom’s Cake was quite complicated, and while they did their best to recreate it, it took several hours of explaining during the consultation, followed by multiple emails back and forth, and diagrams from me to get them to understand even the basic shape of the cake. The resulting cake was reportedly tasty (I didn’t have the time to take a bite, unfortunately), but it lacked the attention to detail the cake really needed. Not to mention, the Grooms Cake was 4 hours late into the reception, which meant a lot of our guests had already left before they could try it.

For the Wedding Cake, we’ve chosen a cake Cake Hag had done in the past with minor changes to fit our colors. What arrived was nothing like the picture, and the flowers that we had bought to place into the cake (which Cake Hag explicitly told us not to attempt to put into the cake) were not deployed. The cake also wasn’t as moist as it was during the tasting, though this could be because the cake had to survive hours of being displayed, so maybe the cake was colder.

I’ve already emailed them regarding these issues and asked for compensation for at least the flowers that I had paid since I did feel silly for paying for something that I didn’t use. But, they just gave us a reason of “well we were really spooked by a homeless man who accosted us” (which… if you’re from Atlanta, that’s not very uncommon, so you should have an idea of how to deal with that...) followed by a fervent defense using the contract. While I suppose I should’ve made sure every, single, tiny detail was correct in the contract (up to, and including, the exact, pinpoint location of the flowers, it seems), it’s unfortunate that Cake Hag was the only vendor we worked with who did not take enough care or attention during the consultation and the follow ups to make sure a clear understanding and expectations were set. Also, on the day of, they made zero attempts to contact me or the bridesmaids to give us an update on the status (especially the late Grooms Cake). In fact, we had to give them a call 2 hours in, and they had responded with a simple “we’re on the way,” and was several more hours late.

In their defense, they did offer a free anniversary cake in hopes of making it up, but considering we don’t live in Atlanta anymore, I didn’t take the offer. Besides, what if they messed up that cake too?

Oh! And if you do end up using their services, expect to hear terrible story about us. They were very eager to let us know of a previous contract they’ve had before where the client “wasn’t...

The next step in the evolution of the local bakery is here.

The Cake Hags bring so much creativity, passion, and integrity to their art form of baking that it is love at first bite! Their cakes, cookies, and pies are made from only the finest, freshest, and best all natural ingredients including organic.

Their flavors go way beyond the typical bakery fare into a blissful dream-like Wonka-esque spectrum from Aztec Chocolate Cake to Jameson’s Banana Pudding Cake and everything in between. You haven't lived until you tasted their Carolina Carrot Cake...It has caramelized pineapples!

Maggie and Katie, the mother-daugher duo who own Cake Hags, are some of the sweetest most down to earth people who truly love what they do. Even when they get real busy (which happens often) they make sure everyone is taken care of and always answer all your questions. If you are looking for anything special that you can't find any place else, just ask them and they will make it happen! There isn't a time, where I haven't left with a smile on my face after visiting their store.

If you are looking for a sweet treat to make that special occasion all the more memorable, this is the...

It is sad to see that this beautiful cake wasn’t demolished by the 50 people at my son’s college graduation. We ordered a second lemon cake that was just as disappointing and also thrown away. The taste was just - not good. The frosting had the texture and taste of a stick of crisco- even though they only use the finest sweet cream. I really thought someone must have just made a mistake and didn’t add the sugar or something. After communicating with the bakery- they took no ownership and kinda made me feel like I was the one who didn’t know what I was talking about. The fact is- If you have that many people at a gathering- and a cake that feeds 30- you should not have a crumb left. So- no, it wasn’t me and my taste buds- the cakes were terrible. This did teach me a HUGE lesson- it’s better to have an affordable ,ugly , edible cake than an expensive, beautiful inedible one.

Cake Hag ROCKS! We ordered a custom two-cake stack in chocolate and vanilla, and one on the side to take home in red velvet for a Sweet 16 party for my daughter. The cake looked AMAZING, and tasted amazing! I realized I had forgotten candles, and Katie kindly ran out and grabbed us a, "16" candle, saving the evening! You're wonderful, Katie! :) Everyone LOVED the cake, my personal favorite was the vanilla. :) We asked for buttercream rather than fondant, because I dislike the rubbery consistency of fondant. All in all, a fantastic addition to a wonderful Sweet 16! Thanks so much again! We will be back!
