Love this place! Food is great, they play all the games, and it's a friendly spot. Most of the staff is also friendly and attentive--even on game nights.
Burger: half pound of ground beef, cheddar, tomato, onions, and lettuce. It held together well and was more than filling. The flavors hit all the right notes. It was a good burger.
Tots: they were cold sadly, so I didn't really eat any except the two cold ones I popped.
Bavarian Pretzels with queso: pretzels were Bavarian-style and had that great hint of caraway known for the region...which I thought was a nice authentic touch. Queso was forgotten (as were other condiments ordered), but later did arrive after eating half the yummy pretzel!
Beer: cold, crisp Caslberg Pilsner (Budvar / Czechvar was out as was Bell's Two-Hearted which were my go-to choices for this meal; I would have started with the pils, and end with the Bell's. Sadly, I only had the one beer and that one took 30 minutes to get into.
If it weren't for such an awful experience with my server, I'd have given the place 5 stars. It took about 30 minutes from sitting to getting a beer and "glass of ice water" (small warm bottle of water, but whatever) -- waiting at length for food on a busy night is always expected and I didn't have high expectations for a busy kitchen to keep up with crowds (probably why the tots were so cold). But I totally expected that to be the case and do not begrudge the kitchen at all.
Probably just an off-night for that server (other servers were hustling big time though!!-- and seemed to be doing well enough with time/task management to pause every few minutes and scan the floor for their customers).
My order was missing items and just not attentive enough service to get those items in a timely manner. The server seemed busy chatting up a friend. Which, I get. It seemed like a stressful situation that night for this particular server and venting was in the cards... But it was to the detriment of service. Waiting for a to-go box during one of these chats was kinda hilarious actually. Like, a lack of self-awareness was the glow of this server's night. That same lack of awareness resulted in a bumping into another server and spilling a platter of drinks down the back of another customer. It was like watching an avalanche in slow motion.
Needless to say, I'll pass on attempting to watch a game or grab a pint here again. I didn't even stay for the entire match because it was just so terribly awkward. I still tipped 20% because I honestly felt bad for the server. But it really was like a hilarious episode of Always Sunny. Also, I feel so bad for the poor woman who had drinks spilled down...
Read moreAvoid at all costs during an arsenal match and/or big game. They don't manage the bar appropriately so you literally will not be able to get even a drink. Here now I think I could see 30+ people standing around without even a coke. It's literally impossible. I even flagged down a waitress walking by asking if I could order a drink and she told me no because the bar was so behind. Not really sure what all they were doing. You would have expected pints being poured non-stop or them taking orders but I didn't see that. (Also saw them put the paper with orders on top of the drinks. As in....in the drink. Nasty. Might as well have dunked a random dollar bill in the drink.) Two people behind the bar and four bringing out food/drinks to table. What they need to do is section off the far right side of the bar for walk away orders (where the darts are) so that people at least know where to go to get served so it's not this random mix of people standing at the bar with those actually wanting to order. With that they could even limit the options to 4 things. (Also that side of the bar stinks from the toilet so no one actually wants to sit on that side.) They could also start ticketing entry for big games. It's not like they'd lose out that way because they'd lose the people they weren't able to serve in the first place! Also could entertain the idea of ticketed entry with buffet only to free up staff, add more two person high tables for people to put their food and drink (avoids empty seats at 6 person tables!!!). Just seems like a lot of missed opportunity to manage this properly and bring in more cash. Previously eaten here and it's fine. Nothing to write home about but you will feel satisfied and like it was priced right. Atmosphere for games is really great with all...
Read moreCool place. Good local place that has a lot of character and cool people. Plus it has a lot of soccer to watch, which is beautiful. Diverse crowd which it should be, given its location. I have to say though, the last two times I've beg here, this older white British lady has been very rude to me. The first time, I had ordered a tea at the bar and was watching the world cup after. The bartender rudely said I had to leave the bar if I wasn't going to buy anything, reminder, I had already bought something. I asked why he had to be so rude about it, and this older English lady, while counting stacks of cash, said "well we are a restaurant" which, I guess excuses bad customer service? I don't know. I bought a beer, since their limited world cup menu but fried food and red meat, which I understand but not necessarily everyone's diet, especially if you're health conscious. Then, I return to catch a game again and my waitress hadn't checked on me in awhile so I hadn't had an opportunity to order any food and she rudely approaches me and says you need to buy something, you can't be sitting here watching the game. Meanwhile a white guy appears to be doing to that very thing but I can't assume anything, all I know is we were both sitting there with no dishes on our table. I understand you're a business but part of being a business is proper customer service and not being rude to customers. Maybe that's just how English people are but I'm taken aback by the out and out rudeness. I don't think it's a race thing because black people work here and seem to frequent the bar, but it's not like there's a historical precedent for white British people only treating darker skinned people well if they're exploiting their labor or taking their money.......
