Iâm a long time customer of Old Homestead. I probably average visiting about 3 times a month. Tonight, they turned me off by what they did so bad, I wonât be back for a while. I order a lot of different things on the menu there depending on my mood. Tonight, I knew exactly what I was in the mood for from earlier in the day. I wanted a nice filet and when I order a filet there it comes with a terrible little potato cake of some sort. I have never met a potato I didnât like until this one, but itâs really inedible and Iâm not the only one who feels that way. So whenever I order the filet I substitute that potato thing for either mash or onion rings and Iâve been doing that for years upon years. Never once having an issue. They usually do a small amount of onion rings maybe 5 or so. Certainly not an order as I wouldnât expect it to be. So tonight I order and ask the waiter to leave out the potato and do onion rings instead. No problem, until my food comes out and thereâs the potato thing underneath and no onion rings and both the waiter and the waitress leaning over me saying âoh chef just wouldnât do itâ I didnât even know what they were saying at first, but then I realized as they further clarified that âchefâ would not substitute the onion rings for his potato thing stating that it wasnât cost effective. What in the world? Okay, so tonight we had a cranky chef who refused to give a long time customer what they wanted. Forced an item on me that I clearly stated I didnât want. âChefâ didnât know if I had an allergy or a dietary restriction, but that didnât matter, he sent that steak out with the potato that I didnât want because 5 friggin onion rings instead were not cost effective. What a wonderful chef. I have to blame the waitstaff too and I rarely fault waitstaff. As a person whoâs been in the industry for all of their adult life, I would have never delivered food that way to someone when they clearly told me they didnât want it. If they wouldâve came to me 5-10 minutes before my meal arrived, and said the chef wonât substitute, I wouldâve gladly ordered an order of onion rings but I wasnât going to wait and let my steak get cold to wait on the onion rings at this point. If I were waiting on that table, I wouldâve made sure that that customer had onion rings even if I had to insist that âchefâ do right by a customer or pay for an order of onion rings myself just to make sure they got what they wanted. Someone picked up my check tonight and I know tipped well but I still tipped 20% on top of that just because. Had I paid my own check, the tip wouldâve been well over 20% but tonight under the circumstances the 20% that I gave was just extra and I honestly could say, and I never ever not tip great, but I regretted giving them that extra because of this incident. I went there tonight and left unsatisfied, not getting what I wanted and the way it was handled was so classless. And I donât normally eat fried food on the regular so when I order the onion rings it a treat that I was really in the mood for tonight. Tell âchefâ that he lost a few customers tonight and if he wants to learn how to make an edible potato cake that people actually like, Iâd be happy to show him...

My recent visit to Old Homestead Steakhouse was deeply disappointing, especially considering its reputation. The experience was riddled with issues that significantly detracted from the meal and overall service.
Service Issues Our first waiter, whose name I unfortunately did not get, initially assisted us but seemed rushed and inattentive. After two minutes of interaction, he left, stating he would return shortly. However, we waited an unacceptable 30 minutes without any follow-up. Despite clearly noticing us, he chose to assist other tables while ignoring ours. Eventually, we flagged down another waiter named Caesar, who agreed to help. When we gave him our order, he informed us it had already been placed. Shortly after, the original waiter returned, rudely dismissing us when we explained that Caesar was assisting us.
The chaos didnât end there. We waited an additional 40 minutes for our food, only to find out from Caesar that our order hadnât even been placed yet. This lack of communication and accountability was frustrating. When we expressed our dissatisfaction, Caesar responded defensively rather than empathetically, saying, âYou guys are not the only ones here; we have to serve 800 dinners right now.â His unprofessional attitude only added to our disappointment.
Food Mix-Up and Quality To make matters worse, Caesar brought out our food just five minutes after claiming weâd need to wait another 30 minutes. This inconsistency was concerning. When we received our meals, the orders were completely incorrect. My steak, ordered medium, was overcooked to well-done, while my partnerâs steak, ordered well-done, arrived medium. Since we had different cuts of steak, we couldnât even swap dishes.
When we raised this issue with Caesar, his response was dismissive and rude. He insisted that the orders were correct and refused to acknowledge the mistake, even though it was clear we were served someone elseâs food. My partner always eats well-done steak and would never order anything less cooked, so his insistence was both frustrating and unprofessional.
Conclusion Although Caesar removed one steak from our bill, it did little to make up for the disastrous experience. The lack of accountability, poor communication, and unprofessional behavior completely ruined our evening. I strongly believe the staff, particularly Caesar and the first waiter, need better training to handle customer concerns and deliver basic levels of service.
I cannot recommend Old Homestead Steakhouse. Dining out should be an enjoyable and stress-free experience, but this visit was anything but that. I will not...
