GOOD BRUNCH SPOT! 100% RECOMMEND
At $19 per person, you will not find a better brunch buffet for the price. The buffet is simple but it is still offers decent variety. They have salad and fresh fruit, breakfast items, lunch items, and a full dessert selection! BUT, keep in mind, this is a culinary school restaurant, so quality may vary a little bit.
The salad and fruit is simple. For breakfast, they have the standard selection you'd expect in the South; eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, sausage gravy, and grits. Next to the look-in kitchen, they have a waffles and french toast table with plenty of topping options. The waffles are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and never over cooked. The french toast is nothing to write home about. I usually try a piece but I'm never impressed. In addition to the buffet items, you can order a build-your-own omelette from your table, at no additional cost. Unfortunately, the omelettes are hit-or-miss depending on the skill of the student who cooked it for you, so keep that in mind.
One of my favorite items in this whole buffet are the hand-battered chicken tenders! The flavor is awesome, the batter is crispy but not overwhelming, and the chicken is always tender. I love the tenders and they've had them every time I've come for brunch. Edgar's usually also has another lunch dish which rotates. The other dish usually looks good but I've never tried it because of how much I like the tenders!
Last of all is the dessert table. The desserts are practically their own buffet! There are always at least 4 good quality options at the dessert table. They usually have something for everyone, whatever your taste is.
The servers are always friendly and polite. The only reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the quality sometimes varies due to this being a culinary school's restaurant. I have never had a good omelette here. I've seen some good omelettes come out of the kitchen but I've never had one. But, the scrambled eggs are good enough that I'll probably stop ordering omelettes and be perfectly happy.
Another thing I'm not a huge fan of is the fact that the coffee is not included in the cost of the buffet. At an additional $3.50, it is not worth ordering black coffee here.
BUUUUUUUUT, I still like this place, and it will always be a go to for me for brunch. If you haven't tried it, and you love brunch buffets, you need to...
Read moreThe first time I came into the restaurant was a wonderful experience and the food was great! I came in last night expecting the same and my husbands food was great but this time I was pregnant as well so there are some food items that I shouldn’t eat. I picked my meal around this which was the catch of the day which was pickerel if I remember correctly. I was offered a choice of sauce on the side and I chose the lemon caper sauce. When the food came out I tried the sauce and thought it tasted like it had wine in it so I checked with the waiter and it did but the chef said the alcohol should have cooked out. I later discovered the middle of the white fish I was eating was raw. The chef said it is normally cooked to this temperature and should be completely safe. Now I’ve never had a cooked white fish cooked medium rare in my life but if this is the case I think I should have been informed and given the choice on the temperature. Also alcohol takes quite a long time to cook out of something. After 15 minutes of cooking 40% of the alcohol content is still in the food, after 1 hour 25%. The choices made about my food are my choices not chefs choices so I should be well informed about the quality and content of my food especially if I am very obviously pregnant. Any alcohol could harm my baby and raw fish could give me listeria and harm my baby as well as put me into early labor. I didn’t eat the rest of my fish or the lemon caper sauce and didn’t leave feeling very happy about the experience. Food safety should be a number one priority and the customers should be able to make informed decisions about their food not get halfway through and realize with shock that they are consuming alcohol...
Read moreTerrible experience. Had brunch reservations for 10:45am 8/14/22. Dining area was clean and waitress was great hence the 2 stars. The individuals at the buffet were rude and inconsiderate for no apparent reason. We walk in to where the chafing dishes are located and there are 2 individuals standing behind the table. We walk up, grab a plate and wait patiently for the guy to open up all the chafing dishes. As he was opening them, there were tongs for the sausage links in one of the chafing dishes. I proceed to grab one with the tongs and was immediately scolded by being questioned - "What are you doing? we have to serve you and COVID is real! - you cant be doing that" Then he proceeds to tell me that we were not allowed to grab our own plates in the first place - which we stood there with plates in our hands while he was opening the chafing dishes and never said a word. First off, there is no sign stating anywhere that they are there to serve us or that they will be grabbing our plates. Even a simple hello, we will be serving you today would have sufficed but we did not even get that. Additionally, neither person was wearing a mask and there was a self serve area with cheese and fruits to the right so I guess COVID does not get on cheese and fruits. My wife, who was standing next to me, was completely ignored and the girl tried to serve the lady behind her. Luckily, the lady behind us had sense and stated that my wife was in front of her. This upset her for whatever reason as she made it very obvious that we were wasting her time and decided to stack all of my wife's food on top of each other. I will not be back to that establishment and I will be sure to inform Jim Stiff of...
