I am updating this review! I have been reading all of the negative comments that people have made and I just have to laugh. There are just some people that can’t be pleased, and will complain about anything. And maybe the atmosphere of this place just isn’t their vibe and that’s too bad. I’ll tell you about my experience last night. I had more fun than I have had in a VERY long time!
I am 61 years old, divorced, and live alone. At my age, we’re all grandparents by now (how did this happen? 😳😫🤷🏻♀️), and family and other commitments seem to take everyone’s lives in different directions. Unfortunately, my grandchildren are 3 hours away and I don’t get to see them a lot. And with the dawn of social media and text messaging, people just do not talk or communicate in person anymore. And even when they do, they seem to constantly have their heads down interacting with their📱📱📱 🤦🏻♀️ (Watch, there will be whole new diagnosed neck and thumb conditions as time goes on! Like carpal tunnel when everyone started ⌨️ing ) sorry, I tend to ramble, but I want you to know where I’m coming from. So I’ve really lost touch with all my friends, and nobody ever wants to go out and have a good time. And part of the reason is that there really never has been a place in Augusta that was fun for people my age (since the great Gin Mill closed years ago. A great little neighborhood bar that all my friends used to go to back in the day. Lol) Well, I had spotted the Hideout as I was driving down Washington Rd quite a few months ago. And I liked the name and how it was kind of “hidden” in there behind Starbucks. I thought it looked like it might be a cool little place, but alas, never have anyone to go with. So last night I finally pulled up my big girl panties, got dressed and headed for the Hideout all by myself!!! It really doesn’t bother me a lot to go places alone, because I used to travel a lot for my job and did it all the time. Still, I was a bit nervous. I arrived and immediately loved the vibe when I walked in the door. A cool little “hole in the wall” kind of place with electronic darts and young people hanging out, having a great time. I walked to the bar and took a seat next to 2 young ladies that seemed to be having so much fun playing Keno and talking and laughing. And I realized I was the only “old lady” 👵 in the place. So I ordered a beer from Monica, a delightful bartender! I have never played Keno and began watching them. Then I started asking questions about it, and they were both so sweet! They introduced themselves and we struck up conversation. I felt a huge sense of relief, and completely at ease. Monica could not have been more helpful or accommodating! As the night went on, I enjoyed being there, and I felt like I was back in the day again! This was a cool place, AND they have 2 sides....smoking and non! An added plus for those of us who have not yet been able to give it up :(. Later, another really cute young girl, who had been at the end of the bar, and had smiled at me several times, walked down to me, just to pay me the most beautiful compliment. Really made an old girl feel good. So we struck up a long conversation, and I immediately felt like I had a new friend. We laughed and talked for most of the rest of the (late for grandma) night! We exchanged numbers and the other girls and I did too. I knew this was the place for me! I honestly have more fun hanging out with young people anyway! So, for those who take the time to read this, consider the atmosphere and vibe, and decide if that’s for you. But if it sounds like the perfect place to go, please do! I will be back! And for those who made so many negative comments about parking:
I've followed "The Hideout" on Facebook for a bit now, so I thought I'd drop in and see what it was about. Upon arriving we were immediately greeted and asked if they could get us anything, we pulled a seat at the bar. The overall vibe was nice, with a good variety of music (not something you find very often) and a multitude of dart boards, games, and televisions to keep you entertained. My only two drawbacks were one, it's a bit small, so if it were, say a Friday or Saturday, I could see where it'd be a cramped environment and two, the "outdoor patio" isn't really for hanging out, it's more of a small smoking area, which of course doesn't wk well for non-smokers. We overall enjoyed our time here and the bartenders very attentive to our needs, even to the point of learning a new drink for us. I look forward to our...
Read moreThere was a woman bartender on the smoking side of the bar that seemed like she hated her job. She was incredibly rude. Jason the other bartender seemed like he didn't like his job either based on the things he was saying about always being out of stuff and other backhanded comments about the owner. I asked to play jenga and was told that game wasnt available the night I went. Food was good but I won't be back. There are plenty of other places I would rather spend my money then with people who don't enjoy their job and are rude. I just wanted to have a good time but that was a little hard to do when all you hear are negative things and are...
