Without doubt, previous reviews about this place are quite accurate; they do tacos very well at this place. The other thing that this location, Durango Tacos does well is unprofessionalism. If you call the number may be busy. If you call back the phone may just ring and ring, and ring forever.
You may wonder, surely, someone will answer the phone, but you'd be wrong. The phone will ring and ring and ring forever. You may call back again and it'll be busy. Maybe. Or, maybe, you can call and have someone pick up. Maybe.
And that's the point; the fact that one of three outcomes is possible is all that is wrong with this location but it gets better (sarcasm). If you do go in to pick up an order you may even catch the heavyset young guy who occasionally wears glasses just let the phone ring and ring and ring forever. It's entirely possible to sit in Durango and hear the phone ring and watch no one answer it. Until it stops ringing.
It could just be laziness; but it is surely unprofessionalism. Durango Tacos is the one business in Aurora that a person has to work very hard to buy from or give their money too. It's amazing. Durango makes you work very hard to order food from them. This is perplexing.
I suppose it could be said that hey "maybe their busy when you call". And that could be. Sure.
But I guess if you aren't going to answer the phone and just let it ring, you shouldn't do it when people are in the restaurant to see you actually not doing it. Because if people have to call for food, and no one answers the phone ... and then they just come in to order food and see you stand there and not answer the phone; why should they pay for that?
The food here was pretty tasty; but its getting pretty old having to chase down and HOPE a restaurant answers the phone so you can give them money. Think about that. Calling over and over and over again so you can hopefully order their food and give them money for it. It's crazy.
I think I'll start buying from Tecalitlan more. No matter when you call someone picks up; they're always ready. And if you go in there and the phone rings its never unanswered. There's never an employee talking to the chef but not answering the phone.
And even if there is; they at least have the integrity, intelligence and professionalism to not let people actually watch it...
Read moreI'm never coming back, I was highly disappointed! I'm a big supporter of local business, especially if it's downtown, but this is a sad effort at being a restaurant. One night I was craving tacos so me and my brother went out for one, but instead of going to our usual spot I wanted to try this hole in the wall we seen a while back. I ordered a burrito de asada and a taco de tripas, but the cook said they were out of tripas, my brother ordered a torta de asada. It was a bit on the pricey side, but I thought it was gonna be worth it. So we get home, bag is feeling heavy and we're excited to dig in. We take our food out the bag and the bag has big grease spots and the food wrapper was full of grease, no biggie, doesn't kill our appetite too bad. We open the wrapper, I pick up my burrito and half the burrito tortilla is orange from all the grease and in the wrapper is a huge puddle of grease, at this point I'm scared and hoping I don't get sick or get heart burn. I start eating, my brothers eating, I'm not enjoying it but still trying to think what I think about it. I get about half way when I lose my appetite and think, this doesn't taste normal, something tastes over seasoned and I can't tell whether it's the beans or the meat. I pick up a piece of meat, and what do you know? It's that fake taco bell meat!! It crumbles in my fingers! My brother noticed it too and was just as disappointed. Look a little closer for the cheese because I didn't see it, instead of using traditional Mexican cheese they use yellow american cheese!!! I was disgusted! Worst experience ever and next time I'm looking for some late night eats, this will not...
Read moreSo I walked in and like the place inside. It has the old fashion sit at bar where you can order your food and watch the cook do his thing. The service was good and fast. It only took about 5 minutes to get our food which was pretty fast. I did notice somethings while waiting for me food. The place is almost borderline unsanitary. You can tell what doesn't get ordered that often like the bowl of cooked chicken that sits on the bottom shelf. I was glad not to order it. Someone else ordered it towards the end and I saw the cook put his tongs in there and throw the chicken in the deep fryer.
The steak tacos were not that good. They we Ok. The meat was too watery (In it's own juice), fairly bland and discolored, and so soft you could confuse it with ground beef. The al pastor tacos were probably the best they had there. If I were to go back I would stick to the al pastor which is what they were selling the most. I was observing the whole time seeing what sells the most. I will say this, the tacos were $2.50 and they were definitely not stingy with the portions per taco. I'll give them that.
Overall it was ok but nothing I would go out of my way for. If I do stop by again, I'll probably go for their fries with meat and have the al pastor. I have heard good things about the place but again, it wasn't all the hype it has been...
