I'm local and really wanted to like this place. I've been here probably 5 times since it opened. It started off great, but my last two visits have been problematic.
First, the food is fine. I tend to be fairly non-judgmental on these kind of Mexican restaurants. Most of them are fairly consistent (you're not getting fresh pressed corn tortillas, beef cheek tacos, or langua in these palces). Therefore most of my judgment is reserved for service, for which El Granero seems to be hurting.
The visit before my latest one was terribly bad: waitress left us waiting for extraordinarily long times (to the point we had to get up and go ask for someone to help us), messed up the order, and then gave us the wrong bill.
In our most recent outing, service again was inattentive (and we're honestly not very difficult). When we did order, my wife asked for cheese dip which still hadn't come by the time the main course was brought out. At that point, the waiter was notified we hadn't received it. He simply said okay, then went back. It never did come because he took it off the bill without even asking if we still wanted it.
I ordered fajitas, which were brought out without the tortillas. Someone other than our server brought out the food, which is fine, but our server never returned when the food was brought out to make sure everything was okay (pretty standard practice of waiting tables). I had to flag down someone else to ask for tortillas for the fajitas, which then took an inexcusable amount of time to be brought out.
Like I said, I really did want to like this place. It would so much more convenient for me given how close it is. However, out of five visits in the short time since they've opened (just over 4 months), I've only gotten reasonably good service at 60%. In years of visits to the town's other Mexican restaurant, I can't recall a single instance where service was slow, incorrect, or not immediately rectified if there was an issue. It's unfortunate, but I may not have it in me to try this...
Read moreWe spent some time at Aurora Farms Outlet on a Sunday afternoon and decided to try this place after checking the reviews, which are very positive. It had that typical Mexican Food vibe, but, wow, what a disappointment. My wife ordered a chicken salad, and I ordered enchiladas. The chicken on my wife's salad was cold, and so were my enchiladas. Cold enchiladas! At other Mexican restaurants I usually have to wait for the plate to come down from red-hot before I can take a bite, but these were, at best, room temperature when served. And I really couldn't tell the bean enchilada from the cheese enchilada; they all became just a lukewarm mass on the plate.
I hope that our visit was just an anomaly, but we'll never know because I would not be able to convince my wife to try it again. I'm not trying to keep you from going, just trying to get the place to...
Read moreEverything about this restaurant was good except for the most important part, service. I can honestly say I have not been to a restaurant where the servers were so rude and in such a hurry that we could not even get in a question or request. They walked away while we were still talking. They brought out the wrong drinks, the wrong food and my husband and my friend had to ask for their tortillas for their fajitas because they did not bring with food. Not to mention we had no room on our table because they did not take our dirty dishes. Oh did I mention one of the waiters was very rude to my friend because she accidentally went through the out door when coming in. I never have had such a bad service at a restaurant and have never put in a bad review. This experience was over the top. Sorry El Granero we...
