The most horrible chain of events happened to me today and I've never thought I would ever experience something so painful in the liberal state of Colorado. The sad part about it is I don't even think upper management would even care. This cafe is downstairs from my apartment complex and I used to go in everyday and get a few macarons and sometimes a peppermint latte I've even tried the breakfast burrito that was served extra cold. I never mind the lack of costumer service from some individuals but today was sooooo hurtful in soooo many ways. I was racially profiled and made to feel less than by a staff member. Around 9:45am this morning I went inside the cafe as I so everyday and sat down in the back and a woman came to the back and said you need to buy something or I'm gonna have to ask you to leave .... I understand we have problems with the homeless in the area but what was heartbreaking to me was that she asumed I was homeless because I'm African American. My friend / next door neighbor said she never experienced that type of treatment and she sits there all day everyday and she even runs her small business there everyday. She even meets her clients there on a daily and she has lived there longer than me and said that has never happened to her.She has never bought one thing at all non has her clients. I know I will never return because of this experience. I still got up and purchased my usual and left a tip and walked out and said good bye and I got no response....but I know my kind is not wanted there and I can feel the energy and the fact that no one even speaks to me when I was in and I say hi and I get no response. It's heartbreaking to see the leaves of costumer service my caucasian friends nebeighors se that don't even buy anything...I'm writing this so Boone of color has to experience this level of hurt. I wish you all the best even though I'm more than sure no one cares and you'll be glad I'm never coming back because I'm black and...
Read moreWow, where do I even begin. My fiancé came in today not really knowing what to expect. With that, going into any place, blind, can always be a nerve wracking experience. The atmosphere walking in is cozy, but clean, and the smell of pastries hits you ever so sweetly, like coming home to mom baking.
Their menu, while quite large, has something for everyone. My fiancé had gotten a lavender latte and for me a snickers coffee. Both exceeded our expectations! And now don’t get me started on the food! Many wonderful options to choose from. We had ordered, along with the coffee, a bagel, the spinach cheese swirls, a peach pastry, a lemon poppy seed muffin and a carrot cake, and my goodness have I never been more impressed!
The muffin was warm, and sweet. Brings me back to early mornings sitting on a porch swing, listening to the doves chirp. The spinach swirls were a perfect savory balance, bringing my fiancé back to their barista days in Cali. The bagel, is a bagel, but classic snack none the less. The peach pastry was the most surprising, very buttery yet sweet, and perfect for folks to share with their special someone. Now many things can make me emotional, but I have never been touched, the way this carrot cake has. The first bite brought me back to why I love food. Carrot cake is one of my most favorite cakes, it was made for a birthday party when I was in one of the darkest times of my life. As I am eating it, my eyes are welling up, that familiar first bite that made me feel so happy in that sad time in my life. I am reminded that it’s the little things in life that can really make you feel safe and wanted, even though you’re the one buying.
The staff was extremely friendly, and I will say that these folks are the real deal. Some of best places you find are always the most surprising, especially when it’s just down the road tucked away. Thank you wake and take, you’ve made me feel like...
Read moreMy experience here was very strange. The vibes were definitely off. The baristas were unfriendly. I was the one who said hello, and the girl who worked the cash register just came off so rude to me. She didn't say a single word, just typed in my order, made me feel judged, and then walked away. It was so strange and uncomfortable. Then there isn't a clear place to stand and wait for your coffee and I felt in the way the whole time, even though I was the only customer there. I got a mocha, and it was so sweet I could barely drink it. On a scale of 1 being plain black coffee and 10 being the most sickly sweet drink, this mocha was probably an 8. Generally, I'd say mochas fall around 5-6. It tasted like their espresso beans had a strong hazelnut flavor. It was the worst mocha I've had since I moved to Denver in 2020. I'm also 90% sure they did not use oat milk in my drink, but sure charged me for the oat milk. Then the ambiance was so weird and only made my experience more uncomfortable. Party music was playing pretty loudly from the speakers, which is weird because usually coffee shops play more chill music (unless it's dutch bros) as people generally come to work at coffee shops, and this one had great space for working. But I wouldn't work there with that music playing. Then, the TV that had a bunch of construction workers standing in front of it was showing an aeriel view of goats running through a field. The goats + the party music were a...choice. I felt the place had to have just opened due to no one being there and all the construction workers, and there was drywall dust on the stairs. I thought maybe they weren't open yet, and that's why the batista was rude, but when I walked out, the sign said "open." It looked nice at first, and it has such good reviews I expected to like it. But it was just so strange and so uncomfortable and the coffee wasn't even good. I don't plan...
