On Barley Bean’s menu on their website they say they can make any dish vegan. I then ordered on Uber Eats. I ordered the Mighty Burrito and selected vegan bacon. There was no button to select to modify entire burrito to vegan, nor any other buttons to remove or subsitute the non-vegan items and to replace with vegan items. I wrote in the special instructions “vegan please” and then in the order note for them to call me if they’re unable to make this burrito vegan so I can choose something else. I received the burrito and it seemed to not be vegan. I called and the person who answered said they’re unable to see my special instructions nor my order note on their end. They said it had real eggs and cheese. I then double checked that I did in fact include those notes in my order, and I had.

Besides that the burrito was cold despite the time to order and time to arrival was 30 minutes. The Uber Eats driver was very fast. The preparation was suspiciously quick, but it’s early so they’re probably not too busy. Wrapping the burrito in tin foil instead of paper would help with retaining the food temperature.

All I can do is get a refund from Uber Eats. No remedy from the restaurant was offered directly.

What the restaurant can do to improve is: Either remove on their website that they can make anything vegan OR add a vegan modifier button to their menu items on Uber Eats. Fix the backend issue that causes their staff to be unable to read special instructions and order notes OR train their staff on how to use the UberEats tablet/app/POS to read those notes OR remove the option for special instructions entirely from their Uber Eats restaurant page. If I didn’t have the option to include special instructions, I would have chosen a menu item that was already vegan and not modified one.

I know other restaurants can read special instructions. So this ultimately was their failure that has a variety of remedies. As someone in the service industry for a decade, it is disappointing when you call and are met with a response that’s basically “it’s not my fault. Tough luck.” I know they can’t refund Uber Eats on their end, but just a little effort at customer service would be appreciated. Such as, “I’m sorry. I don’t know why I can’t see those notes. I’ll talk to a manager about it and see what we can do to avoid this happening again in the future.”

I might stop in there to eat one day but I will never order them for delivery again.

Update: Changing review to one star because the restaurant has not acknowledged this review. It was a dead end with Uber Eats to get a refund so I’m out $20 on a meal I couldn’t even eat. The lack of response to this review is a clear indication of this company’s low prioritization of customer...

I first came here more than a year ago and had a pleasant experience. I came back a month ago because I wanted an açaí bowl before a workout class. I specifically looked up Barley Bean’s website, clicked “Menu,” and saw an Açaí Berry Bowl under the “Sweet and Savory Menu.” Once I was there I was told that Mission Burger Co. now handles all the food, and the Açaí bowl was no longer available. I settled for an Açaí shake, but explained that I was originally looking for a bowl since that’s what was advertised on the website. Maybe I shouldn’t have, but I politely suggested updating the website so other people wouldn’t be confused like I was. I was briefly met with an irritated look from the cashier, I guess because this was something she had no control over. The actual açaí shake was pretty good, but I still felt kind of down about that whole interaction. Just because I was passing by today, I looked on their website and sure enough, it still has the Sweet and Savory menu that is no longer offered. I still have same feedback from one month ago - please consider changing the menu on the website, because it is quite...

I drove over 120 miles to visit some new friends this past weekend. This was the place they decided on. We were there for about an hour and a half. A couple of us got there early enough to get in on the end of brunch. I got the croissant sandwich with eggs, bacon, and cheddar with a cappuccino. My friend got a pizza to share and another got a calzone (sorry, no pic.) The sandwich was super flaky, the bacon was nice and chewy, the cheese was appropriately gooey... That was a tasty sammich! The pizza looked amazing, too. It must have been because the leftovers went in a box to go, as did the remainder of the calzone. Parking looked like it could be a bit iffy on busy days, but I lucked out and got one right by the entrance. The location was easy to find, which was really helpful for an out-of-towner. The staff that I got to speak to were pleasant and helpful.

If it happens we plan another meet-up I would happily go back. They had a good selection of yummy sounding foods, beer, and coffee, and I felt like I got a decent meal for a decent price at a nice...

Matcha was not good and sooooooo overpriced. It was made it maybeeee 2 minutes and only had a hint of green. I thought the whole building was plant based and i know there is a vegan restaurant also in the building yet milk alternatives are $1.25. So i paid $8.39 for an unflavored cup of oatmilk. As a reply to the response: per the picture i included originally you can see it looks like there is hardly any matcha powder at all. It is a veryyyy light green. You say you have competitive prices but you do NOT have competitive matcha. Also you have the most expensive alternative milk pricing. A lot of places are no charge or $1 most. Take a look at stargazer matcha. I paid the same price for theirs and that was with oatmilk AND a flavor. And you can actually see the matcha because it was dark green! No i wouldn’t want a sweetened cup of oatmilk that’s the whole point. What i got tasted like oatmilk and NOT matcha. Therefore my issue is with the taste, color, the price and the time it took to “prepare” it.

Fantastic first trip to Barley Bean! Had seen it pop up numerous times when searching for a coffee shop, but I kept writing it off as it seemed like it was missing the small local shop charm. However, everyone working there was super helpful, welcoming, and kind to us. My partner doesn't drink coffee but loves matcha and they went out of their way to help figure which seasonal drink would pair best with a matcha. Both our drinks were above and beyond equally beautiful and delicious. We had some food too which was good but could have been more seasoned. The atmosphere was chill with people just eating/drinking, working on laptops and like us, playing board games. We saw another review that showed the owners lowered prices as a reflection of the market, and we just kept talking about how cool it was to see a company be fair and honest about their pricing. We go to a different coffee shop every weekend, but already planned to return here next weekend instead! Must try!!
