Charleys Cheesesteaks & Wings — Restaurant in Austin

UPDATE: Since two weeks ago the cheesesteak didn’t do it for me, I decided to try their wings. The service was impressively fast for mid-lunch rush but the wings were lacking. They’re well cooked and I appreciate the option for drums/flats only, the classic buffalo sauce was virtually flavorless. The vinegar and spicy tang you usually hope for was so muted I considered asking the kitchen to “re-toss” them.

A good buffalo sauce has three ingredients: Vinegar, Hot Sauce and Butter. Somehow Charlie had failed on all accounts. The wingstop across the street is a lot better.

2-for-0. Charlie’s lost my business. Shame, I really wanted to like ya but the food just doesn’t deliver.

Came in for a late lunch, new to the neighborhood. Staff were super friendly, place was bright and clean.

Got “The Old School” steak, Cajun fries and a lemonade. The lemonade was fresh and tangy, the fries warm and crispy. The Cajun seasonings were nice and I enjoyed the crunch. The steak sandwich was so bitterly salty and over-seasoned it was hard to eat. The season salt on the meat was so overwhelming it was the only thing I could taste.

I know this place just opened so I’m going to chalk it up to new kitchen staff. I’ll try this place one more time in a month or two but until then, I honestly didn’t enjoy the food. Would not recommend unless you have a...

I had a very weird encounter at this location. In a nutshell; my husband wanted a well done Philly and the one he received indeed was not that. He asked for a remake, and they said okay. However, they didn’t start the remake until about 13 minutes later. After noticing, we asked for a refund instead since the food wouldn’t be finished in time. The young lady at the counter refused to give us a refund on the non received item. She stated they have a No Refund Policy. I said where exactly is that? Then I requested to speak to a manager: she then panicked and asked the entire kitchen questions. The cook was still INSISTING on us to take the remake. He even threw the meat on the grill roughly with used gloves! I told her to show me where it stayed there is a no refund policy. After about a 8 minute debate, she finally issued a refund for the Philly. I tried calling for the manager over the next 2 days, but coincidently he was never “in yet.” My chicken Philly was really good, but the service was very weird and unsatisfactory. Wanted to give this place a try since it’s new to the area. For lunch I walked in today. Customer service was good. They helped me right away. Ordered my food to go and got back to work and realized it was all wrong. I ordered just a regular Philly cheesesteak with added grilled jalapeños. The menu doesn’t say it comes with lettuce and tomatoes anywhere and I’ve never been here before. I’ve never in my life Had a Philly cheesesteak that had lettuce and tomatoes on it and I didn’t ask for it so I don’t know if it was a mistake or if that’s how they come so I’ll give them that grace. I ordered bacon and cheese fries. My receipt said bacon and cheese fries and I got only cheese fries, which was disappointing because I didn’t want just cheese fries or that’s what I would’ve ordered.
