I feel compelled to finally say something about Mayfield Dairy Queen on Stassney Lane, Austin, Texas. First of all let me say that I like to order in advance so my food is ready upon my arrival. This restaurant does not take telephone orders even if you offer to prepay them. They seen to prefer that you stand and wait for them to prepare your to go order. They do however have the option to order on line. I thought this would be a solution to my dilemma. They only reason I continue to order from this Dairy Queen is because I like steak fingers and they are the only DQ within a reasonable distance from me. I have ordered online a dozen times or more. Every time I arrive the order is not only not ready but they can never seem to find the order so they begin to prepare the order after my arrival. This happens every single time and sometimes they still can't get the order right. Now we have COVID-19. The website offers curbside pickup so I place an order. Upon my arrival I notice signs saying too notify them of my arrival but there are no instructions as to how I am supposed to do this. I call their phone number but they don't answer the phone. So I go inside (which completely defeats the curbside option) and as usual they have no record of my order, again. They then prepared my order but of course forgot my extra gravy. This may all seem trivial to some. If I have to go inside to place an order, fine, I can deal with that but when you offer online ordering and especially curbside pick up then you should be smart enough to know how to make that service work correctly or find someone who does. I will continue to order Steak Fingers from Dairy Queen but as soon as someone else in my area offers them then I will never return. In addition: They do have a drive through but it is not accessible to anyone with a pick up. I imagine that medium size vehicles even have a problem trying to navigate the drive through without damaging their vehicle. In all fairness though, the food...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs a local food blogger, I strive to always showcase local spots over corporate ones! After all, my goal is to highlight a variety of new places for people to discover rather than to remind them about the ones they already know.
However, sometimes thereās a grey area. For example, this may look like your ordinary Dairy Queen post, yet itās not. Itās me visiting a local family owned franchise of Dairy Queen. Whatās the difference? Hereās some differentiations I noticed:
Customer Service: youāll find that Mayfield DQās have great ratings on Google Maps, way more than the oneās that are corporate owned. I believe it. Because ownership is more involved in the day-to-day, thereās incentive to provide a great experience.
Cleanliness: sounds silly right? Upon walking in, this must have been the cleanest Fast Food establishment Iāve stepped foot into. I couldnāt believe it! Nicer interior design too, not just tiles and cheap booths.
Morale: because they want their employees to be happy, they treat them well and that means putting their money where their mouth is and starting them at $15/hr.
All in all, next time you want to try something ācorporateā but also want to support local, consider going to your locally owned franchise. You pay the same price, but for a better experience.
So, what did I get when I came? Blizzards of course! Iām a sucker for trying their monthly/seasonal flavors. What I got were the: Frosted Animal Cookies, Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, and Nestle Drumstick! All 3 were great in their respective ways and I couldnāt tell you which was better as they all matched the flavors of the intended snack. I say get the mini size and get all 3! Even amongst the local spots, they're a top contender for ice cream!
For fast food, this place gets my utmost respect which is why I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreJust got off the Phone with Robert Mayfield Himself!! After Over a Month of Phone calls, messages, Reaching out to Dairy Queens Association in Minnesota and Dairy Queen Of Texas and Finally a Response!!!???? Very disappointed with the Mayfield Organization !!! Use to be a decent place!! Owner, Robert Mayfield himself refused to make good on an incident at his particular dairy Queen on Stassney and Manchaca in Austin Texas on May 8th 2024!!! Took over a month of Calling to get a return phone call!!! We will never buy another gift certificate , ice cream or meal or patronize any of ur establishments again Mayfield, for any of my kids or grandkids and will spread the gospel of ur overpriced Crap!! It's funny how they keep posting FAKE good reviews. Please don't waste your time or hard earned money here.Very bad service, I would never eat here or let my family eat here. The kitchen is very dirty ,NONE OF DAIRYQUEEN EMPLOYEES WEAR GLOVES, THEY DO NOT WEAR GLOVES! So when you get a burger all the onions, lettuce, pickles and tomatoes are being handled and put together by some dirty bare hand cook, imagine the food you just paid for, the food your about to eat- was just handled by someone that doesn't wear gloves or wash there hands. Trust me, cross contamination here happens daily. I've also personally witnessed a cook there drop a mozzarella stick on the floor so he picked it up,dropped it in the grease that they use for all the food, then picked it out amd put it in the bag for a order. The place is just so unorganized, I recently Visited here and the inside of the whole building is disgusting .PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR HARD EARNED MONEY HERE!! U Are the opposite of ur father Tolbert!! He was a decent man!!! More than can be said of U !!! What A Guy!!ššµāš«
Sincerely ...
