I feel compelled to finally say something about Mayfield Dairy Queen on Stassney Lane, Austin, Texas. First of all let me say that I like to order in advance so my food is ready upon my arrival. This restaurant does not take telephone orders even if you offer to prepay them. They seen to prefer that you stand and wait for them to prepare your to go order. They do however have the option to order on line. I thought this would be a solution to my dilemma. They only reason I continue to order from this Dairy Queen is because I like steak fingers and they are the only DQ within a reasonable distance from me. I have ordered online a dozen times or more. Every time I arrive the order is not only not ready but they can never seem to find the order so they begin to prepare the order after my arrival. This happens every single time and sometimes they still can't get the order right. Now we have COVID-19. The website offers curbside pickup so I place an order. Upon my arrival I notice signs saying too notify them of my arrival but there are no instructions as to how I am supposed to do this. I call their phone number but they don't answer the phone. So I go inside (which completely defeats the curbside option) and as usual they have no record of my order, again. They then prepared my order but of course forgot my extra gravy. This may all seem trivial to some. If I have to go inside to place an order, fine, I can deal with that but when you offer online ordering and especially curbside pick up then you should be smart enough to know how to make that service work correctly or find someone who does. I will continue to order Steak Fingers from Dairy Queen but as soon as someone else in my area offers them then I will never return. In addition: They do have a drive through but it is not accessible to anyone with a pick up. I imagine that medium size vehicles even have a problem trying to navigate the drive through without damaging their vehicle. In all fairness though, the food...

As a local food blogger, I strive to always showcase local spots over corporate ones! After all, my goal is to highlight a variety of new places for people to discover rather than to remind them about the ones they already know.

However, sometimes there’s a grey area. For example, this may look like your ordinary Dairy Queen post, yet it’s not. It’s me visiting a local family owned franchise of Dairy Queen. What’s the difference? Here’s some differentiations I noticed:

Customer Service: you’ll find that Mayfield DQ’s have great ratings on Google Maps, way more than the one’s that are corporate owned. I believe it. Because ownership is more involved in the day-to-day, there’s incentive to provide a great experience.

Cleanliness: sounds silly right? Upon walking in, this must have been the cleanest Fast Food establishment I’ve stepped foot into. I couldn’t believe it! Nicer interior design too, not just tiles and cheap booths.

Morale: because they want their employees to be happy, they treat them well and that means putting their money where their mouth is and starting them at $15/hr.

All in all, next time you want to try something ā€œcorporateā€ but also want to support local, consider going to your locally owned franchise. You pay the same price, but for a better experience.

So, what did I get when I came? Blizzards of course! I’m a sucker for trying their monthly/seasonal flavors. What I got were the: Frosted Animal Cookies, Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, and Nestle Drumstick! All 3 were great in their respective ways and I couldn’t tell you which was better as they all matched the flavors of the intended snack. I say get the mini size and get all 3! Even amongst the local spots, they're a top contender for ice cream!

For fast food, this place gets my utmost respect which is why I...

Just got off the Phone with Robert Mayfield Himself!! After Over a Month of Phone calls, messages, Reaching out to Dairy Queens Association in Minnesota and Dairy Queen Of Texas and Finally a Response!!!???? Very disappointed with the Mayfield Organization !!! Use to be a decent place!! Owner, Robert Mayfield himself refused to make good on an incident at his particular dairy Queen on Stassney and Manchaca in Austin Texas on May 8th 2024!!! Took over a month of Calling to get a return phone call!!! We will never buy another gift certificate , ice cream or meal or patronize any of ur establishments again Mayfield, for any of my kids or grandkids and will spread the gospel of ur overpriced Crap!! It's funny how they keep posting FAKE good reviews. Please don't waste your time or hard earned money here.Very bad service, I would never eat here or let my family eat here. The kitchen is very dirty ,NONE OF DAIRYQUEEN EMPLOYEES WEAR GLOVES, THEY DO NOT WEAR GLOVES! So when you get a burger all the onions, lettuce, pickles and tomatoes are being handled and put together by some dirty bare hand cook, imagine the food you just paid for, the food your about to eat- was just handled by someone that doesn't wear gloves or wash there hands. Trust me, cross contamination here happens daily. I've also personally witnessed a cook there drop a mozzarella stick on the floor so he picked it up,dropped it in the grease that they use for all the food, then picked it out amd put it in the bag for a order. The place is just so unorganized, I recently Visited here and the inside of the whole building is disgusting .PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR HARD EARNED MONEY HERE!! U Are the opposite of ur father Tolbert!! He was a decent man!!! More than can be said of U !!! What A Guy!!šŸ‘ŽšŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

Sincerely ...

Oh my goodness gracious!!!!!!! THE CURL IS BACK! So for those of you who never knew there was OTHER flavors that DQ have dipped their cones in before... Get ready for a bombdiggity surprise!!! No more chocolate only dipped cones, now you can get cherry and butterscotch dipped cones! Uh you have no idea how excited I am, if you can't tell, as a child my family would stop at DQ after special dine out dinners. We would all get dipped cones - me - I hated chocolate (still kinda do) so I had no problem getting cherry, or butterscotch, the latter being my favorite. Then when I moved to Texas over 20 yrs ago I was shocked! They ONLY dipped chocolate. NOOOOOOOOO! Oddly enough, when I complained about this discrepancy - no one had a clue what I was taking about. What? really? Well to all you unfortunate individuals who never had the chance to taste what an amazingly awesome ice cream cone can be.... Old school usually wins. Try the DQ double dipped cones. And tell me you didn't freak out. Enjoy!

You will not find a Dairy Queen in Austin, or for that matter the entire state of Texas, with better customer service than this Dairy Queen. The folks here are so friendly and customer focused you would think you are at a chik-fil-a! Plus the food quality here is always top-notch. The drive-through line is often long, which is a very telling sign of the quality as well. One tip - do not attempt the drive-through if you have a large car or SUV, they have a very tight turning radius and you will get stuck. The inside counter service is also very fast and the restaurant interior is clean. Everything on the menu is good here. If you have not been to DQ in awhile, give this place a try and you will be back and your belt will be busted! ;-)

Dairy Queen is great for quick and fresh meals and snacks. The staff is friendly and courteous and delivers your food to your table. I had the fresh tacos and they tasted great. The dining room is clean and has plenty of utensils for dining in. Definitely gives other taco places their run for their money. Dairy Queen does not disappoint!!! Thanks Dairy Queen!.
