Read moreAwful service and OVERPRICED! My sister and I decided to try somewhere new. First, it was so dark in the restaurant-turn on more lights in the place! I I ordered the tortilla soup and my sister ordered the pork chop plate with a side of avocado. I typically get the tortilla soup and this is the first time it didn't come with rice. It did come with corn tortillas and I didn't get those. My sister's side of 4 slices of avocado was $4.50 only to find out on the menu it was $3.50 either way that is ridiculously high. When I called to to let the restaurant know of my experience and feed back I spoke with Imelda. She needs to take some customer service training! Of course, she said the price differences were due to menus not being updated. I told her then you should communicate that so a customer doesn't feel like they are being cheated out of their money. I have NO problem paying for good food and service but that was not the case here!...
Read moreFYI, I am not Mexican. I’m a white man raised in upstate New York so please take that into consideration when reading this review. I’ve been in Austin five years now and when I’m craving Mexican this is where I go. My favorite dish is the chili relleno and I have chased it all over Texas. At El Jacalito I have found their chili relleno the most satisfying. Not every restaurant offers this dish and many do a poor job, in my opinion. El Jacalito’s is always “eat every last morsel, good”. I have also tried other dishes and have never been disappointed, except when I can’t finish everything. The prices are fair, the atmosphere is low key and comfortable, and service has always been friendly. There may be “better” food at other establishments and I’m fine with that. You do you and have fun there. I’ll go home with my pants unbuttoned a smile on my face and money still...
