Yesterday, I had a busy day of real estate appointments on the Northside. After a long day, I decided to treat my kids to some Indian food. I originally planned to order from a different Indian restaurant which was located in this same place, but to my surprise, I discovered a newer and semi-fancier restaurant in its place 🥰. The food was amazing, and it seems like these new owners revamped the place a few months ago and they did a good job!
The restaurant, Godavari @austin_godavari , located on the northwest side on Hwy 620 by Anderson Mill/Pecan, is a must-visit for Indian food lovers like me. They have a daily lunch buffet for $15 per person, and on some Wednesday evenings and I think weekends as well. While I prefer ordering ala-carte, their buffet spread is quite impressive. The menu offers a variety of options to choose from.
The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice, with a cool bar area. During my visit for takeaway, I noticed many customers pulling up to enjoy the food. I ordered goat saag and chicken tikka masala with naan, along with mango lassi for the kids. Although they forgot to include the lassi in my bag, they promptly refunded me when I informed them coz I didn’t want to drive back to get it. Lazy me 😅!
Godavari also mentioned that they have branches in the US and Canada. If you get a chance to visit, please share your experience with me and I pray this doesn’t close down like the other two businesses which were here prior. Honestly, I am tired driving so far out to get to good foodie places because these small businesses nearby are being closed due to higher rent and lack of manpower. Anyway! Let’s support these guys.

Read moreAbout 2.5 stars Wait times are bad. Got the name down at 1:37 PM. Got the table at 2:54 PM. We would have left had expectations been set because a lot of places close at 2-2:30. Now that we are inside, it is chaos at its worst. And I am sitting right here as I write it so i don’t get chased on this being a legit review. As soon as you enter, there is a small room on the right where the buffet is set up. Rest of the seating area is open. Problem with this arrangement is it is cramped, chaotic and off putting.
At 3:09, about a min or so after we managed to grab a few things and sit down, we started getting reminders that the buffet would close and to get additional plates of refills. Again, how are we supposed to do that with the limited real estate on the table which already has 4 plates with food. Not to mention the crazy rush that triggered in the small buffet room.
This last bit may not be a big deal to many but it is difficult to eat bone-in chicken and mutton using plastic spoons and forks.
Taste wise - the fish - a bite of what I had was good. The chicken appetizer was good. The paneer appetizer and okra were good. The fruit salad is made of canned fruits and the kheer is loaded with sugar. That’s how much I could manage to try in this crazy crowd. P.S the Godavari that used to be there a couple of years ago up north did a better job with the space and their buffets were good, atleast the few times we tried it and we were surprised when...
Read moreWe went on the day they started live music for Christmas for dinner. We ordered Godavari special Rani dosa. On the menu it said the dosa had 3 fillings but it wasn’t clearly mentioned which ones. When we received the order, we got only two fillings. Upon asking the server, we were told that the menu was not updated and it’s two fillings instead of 3. A few minutes later we were told that the onions inside were the third filling, which was kind of weird but we let go of it. But the chutney was terrible, seemed like it was made in the morning and left out to get spoiled. It smelled really bad and tasted bad as well. On informing the waiter, they neither replaced nor removed the one we had on plate. We were taken aback as it’s a minimum courtesy to do the needful for the price they’re charging. Overall it’s a costly restaurant that serves Indian food which again is not authentic godavari style. Don’t get fooled by the poem that is mentioned in the online menu about Godavari folks. While the people from Godavari are very similar to the ones mentioned in poem, this restaurant (in my opinion) is way far apart from it.
Instead try Desilicious Cafe on West Parmer Lane (if you like South Indian Tiffins like dosa).
P.S: I don’t get paid or receive any benefits from Desilicious cafe for promoting it here. It’s a genuine suggestion based on multiple sources and...
