It is with great sadness that I say adios to Taqueria Guadalajara. I have been a semi-regular customer for the past few years.
The food is outstanding - hot, fresh and delicious, but the service is not. Phone orders specifically.
As long as my food is correct when I make a to-go order, I tip very generously. Whether or not the server is friendly, I am, because they're handling my food. At this place, I only order one item with a very simple substitution, my order is the same every time.
Calling in a to-go order here leaves you wondering if the order will be correct. Usually it is...but communication is spotty, at best, and it is never good.
My order is very simple, even with the substitution. Tonight, I told the lady on the phone, please substitute X for Y four times. At the end, she said ok, and I hung up and headed over.
Checked my order. Not only was X not on my order, neither is Y. Explain politely to first lady, she points at second lady. I explain politely to second lady who actually took my order, I wanted X on my order, not Y, and I didn't get X, or Y for that matter. She looks blank.
First lady does not try to help and walks away. They're busy, it's ok. Third lady sees what is going and walks away. They're busy, and no one is interested in assisting me in explaining to second lady that I just want X instead of Y.
Blank stares continue. I'm wracking my brain how to explain more simply, X for Y. I'm still polite, because they ARE handling my food. X...for Y...
It took me at least three minutes to explain (I think... lol) to second lady that I actually DID want X.
She finally turns to the kitchen, says something to the cook, and I think they are just preparing X and it will come out separately and I am fine with that.
No.
Five full minutes later, TEN minutes after I arrived, second lady takes my to-go box and disappears into the kitchen. Five more minutes later, FIFTEEN minutes after I arrived, after telling second lady at least ONE DOZEN times, (and I was POLITE, because again, this is my FOOD) my food comes back out with NO X, but with Y.
It did not leave with me, and I ate Chick-fil-A tonight instead, so spent $20.00 instead of the $17.00 I would have spent with Taqueria Guadalajara.
This is not the first time that a communication issue has caused this exact problem at this place, but I'm pretty sure it will be the last time.
The food is great, but I do not need the headache of hassling with a restaurant...
Read moreThis restaurant is located on 620 near Lakeline Mall. It's been a while since we've been here for breakfast, and as usual, it's a wonderful meal. We arrived just before the big rush at 10:00 a.m. There are booths and tables and chairs situated all around the restaurant. There's parking both in the front and back. When we arrived business just started to pick up and we were able to sit in the back. It was 1st come 1st serve for seating. Their menu was very robust with many items to choose from. We ordered the Chilaquiles with Verde sauce and 2 over easy eggs, Migas, and a Carne Guisada Taco with flour tortillas. We also ordered coffee and water. While waiting for our meal we asked for tortilla chips and salsa. Three types of salsa are served with the chips. While waiting for our food, the restaurant packed up full, and there was a line winding out the door. Once we got our meal, it looked fabulous, and tasted delicious. While I don't consider myself a Chilaquiles connoisseur, this was the best I have had to date. Within a few minutes our plates were eaten clean and we were ready to go. The wait staff visited with us often, making sure we had enough to both eat and drink. To pay, you go to the front cashier and tell them your order. They locate your ticket, and then you pay. Tips are put in the jar at the front, and the staff share the tips. Everyone working there moved like a well oiled machine. They all supported and backed each other up due to the amount of business. I will definitely be coming back for more.
.....
So a few weeks later we did come back for more and we surprised with the food we received. While enjoyable, we preferred the breakfast. Tried the Nachos Guadalajara and got the Supreme. We didn't realize the difference and started eating only to find out later we received the wrong order. Food was good...
Read moreWe used to be loyal to this place, we ordered from here at least twice a week. For a couple of years everything was great and then suddenly just changed (I think it's because they opened a bigger restaurant at Lamar and they stopped caring about this little one) Everything started when I ordered some chilaquiles with chicken to go, I was eating normally until I felt something in my mouth, it was a piece of bone, not a small one, so I checked the food and the chicken was full of bones, disgusting, even for my dog, chicken it's supposed to be cleaned and shredded carefully but this one seems like it was picked up from the side road, I thought it was just a one time thing, so a couple of days after I ordered fish, again, at home when I was cutting the fish it was black, not dark, BLACK, I was expecting something fresh and healthy and this meat was dry and black, I ended up throwing it away, again, ignored it for a couple of days and then ordered some street tacos to go, at home I open the plate and it's covered by cilantro and onions, that should be something good, except this one was juicy and dark, like it was from 2 days ago, disgusting. I went to the store this time and ask for my money back, they accepted and from that day, I won't order anything from this nasty place, service is ok, but the food is trash since they opened the big restaurant, if you want Mexican food DON'T go...
