This was our second time going there, the first time was during Ramadan last month. We went there because we heard their chicken is halal. I think we were just very hungry the last time (breaking fast after almost 14 or more hours) which is why we thought the food was good. So I told my best friend about it and we went there again yesterday, and it was so underwhelming. The service was okay the first time, but was extremely poor yesterday. Let's talk about yesterday's experience first- we ordered the Shrimp Tempura, Chicken Pad Kee Mao, Chicken Panang Curry, Thai Iced Tea, and Thai Iced Coffee. The portions are very small. The server messed up our order. We asked for a sampler appetizer platter and told her specifically to substitute the pork item (since we don't eat pork) with shrimp tempura. The server got us an order of Shrimp Tempura. $9 for these skinny 4 pieces of shrimp. The flavor was okay. Then came the Pad Kee Mao, which tasted okay. The Panang Curry came after we were almost done eating the Pad Kee Mao. Good thing we decided to eat family style, otherwise one person would be eating alone while the other person waited for their food or if the first person waited, their food would get extremely cold. Anyway, onto the drinks- they came with just the concentrate (sweetened) and a tiny glass with milk. For reference, I have smaller-than-average hands and look how small this glass is in the picture. It's a tiny bit bigger than the size of those paper ketchup cups you dip your fries in. When we mixed the milk with the tea and coffee, it was still extremely sweet so we thought more milk would help. We asked for a little more milk to fix it since the drink costs so much already, we didn't want to waste it. The server never came with our milk. At almost the end of our meal, when the ice had melted, we thought that would help but it was still terrible, so we had to literally wait for the server and flag her down a few times to get her attention, and remind her to bring the milk. She did and we put that in our drinks, but both tasted terrible. The photo you see of the Thai Iced Coffee next to the fortune cookies was taken as we were getting up to leave- my friend could not even drink a quarter portion of their drink, THAT is how TERRIBLE it was! Oh, and the cherry on top? THEY CHARGED US $1 EACH EXTRA for the milk to put on the horrible drinks which was left as is at the table!!! That's, what, like $1 for 1ml or 2ml of milk? Absolutely ridiculous! Our server did not check on our table a single time since taking our order (we basically had to hunt her down to ask for the milk and a spoon for the Panang Curry), did not take our order properly, overcharged us, and was overall extremely unprofessional. I live in the area and really thought this had the potential of becoming a regular spot for me. But I was so disappointed by the experience. I'd rather drive 20mins extra and go to Ros Niyom for some delicious Thai food and excellent service. This was trash. Green Mango, you lost a potential regular customer because I eat out almost every meal and since you're at a walking distance from where I live, I could've been your regular customer. Too bad. 0/10...
Read moreHas the quality of this place gone really down ? Have dined in a lot of times before and also ordered take out . Our recent experience was really not that good . Weekday night dinner and we were asked to first switch tables, which is okay . Then we order all the food together and they did a good job of bringing one by one . The wine glass for $10 is totally not worth it, it was not even quarter glass and it was not even that expensive wine and I felt this is the smallest glass of wine we have ever ordered . Next comes the chicken satay which is okay and nothing great but usually they add cucumbers to the sweet sauce and this time there was only onions..bummer. The worst was the basil fried rice. Totally lacking flavor and was Panda Express kind of fast food quality and cannot even compare to the fried rice at other Thai places nearby . And $16 for that fried rice is totally not justifiable . Finally.. the mango sticky rice . With the mango season in full bloom I was expecting a mango on the sweeter side and this one was sour and they just left some rice on the side which is not the quantity we get in other restaurants for the price point . The waitresses kept putting the food on the other end of the table and we had to get it to our side every time and it was not really a great experience . Might end up ordering the curries for takeout but probably never dining in again . Better off going to Thai restaurants which give quality food for the same price and a better experience . Hope they improve this in the future as this used to be one of my...
Read moreLet me just start by saying — Green Mango by Thai Spice in Austin is easily one of my favorite spots in the city. I’m a repeat customer for a reason, and every visit just reinforces why I can’t get enough of this place.
The food? Absolutely phenomenal. They serve halal chicken, which is a huge plus and something I deeply appreciate — especially when it’s this good. I usually order the Pad See Eue, and it’s consistently flavorful, comforting, and perfectly cooked. The wide rice noodles have that perfect chew, the sauce is rich and slightly smoky, and the halal chicken adds the perfect savory touch. It’s one of those dishes you think about days later.
And no meal here is complete without their mango sticky rice — I honestly can’t hype it up enough. The rice is soft and warm, the coconut sauce is silky and just the right amount of sweet, and the mango? Always fresh, juicy, and ripe. It’s one of those desserts that makes you stop mid-bite and smile — it’s that good.
What also keeps me coming back is how friendly and welcoming the staff are. Whether I’m dining in or grabbing takeout, they’re always kind, quick, and attentive. There’s just a good vibe to the whole place — you feel taken care of and appreciated as a customer.
If you’re in Austin and looking for delicious, authentic Thai food with halal options, Green Mango by Thai Spice is the place to go. I’ve been back multiple times, and every time it hits the mark. You’ll probably find yourself hooked after...
