Order online with 1st restaurant in the strip. I order, then restaurant third party ordering system says the food will get out an hour later than what the initial time said. This is too long of a wait since I'm on a schedule. Tried to cancel 1st restaurant order but can't get through to their phones. Order Julie's Noodles since I am canceling the 1st restaurant. 1st restaurant says, "oh wait, our initial order estimate is correct, and your food is ready right now." Try to call Julie's Noodles to cancel THAT order since the 1st restaurant order is already made. I can't get through their phone to anyone there. The Julie's Noodles order says it will be ready in 35 minutes. So I jump in my car and book it to the restaurant to try and cancel in person. Get to JN in 15 minutes tops. I go in and say I need to cancel, and yet my food is already made?? Chef/manager comes to the front and berates me for trying to cancel since she already made the food. Straight up berates me. I tried to explain that I tried to call, and she cut me off and said, "But we're busy!" Finally concedes to give me my money back in 2 business days.
I have been dying for some authentic handmade dumplings since I stopped living in Beijing a few years ago, but I'm going to skip this place from now on. I'll drive elsewhere if I need to.
To whatever management is reading this, I know you're busy, but I am not a punching bag for your...
Read moreDiscovered this place while looking for somewhere to have lunch in Austin. Walked in and the place was pretty crowded, but there were a few tables open and the line moved quickly. There's about 20 tables and they were immediately cleaned as people left. Ordered the scallion pancake for an appetizer, mixed dumplings, lamb stewed noodle soup, and beef stewed noodle soup. Was given a number and grabbed an open table.
Scallion pancake and mixed dumplings came out first within 10 minutes of sitting down. Both were fresh and hot. The scallion pancakes were very thin and crispy yet very flavorful. The mixed dumplings had a nice thick handmade dough on the outside and each was filled with a good sized dumpling on the inside. You could easily tell the dough was handmade similar to the noodles. Dumplings were amazing.
The noodle soups came out nice and looked great. Both were filled with a large amount of handmade noodles, meat, and the other ingredients. Upon the first bite, there was no doubt this was authentic handmade noodles. Similar to the dumplings, the dough was thick, yet consistently soft and cooked perfectly. The soups were light and full of flavor from the noodles and meat. The meat was very tender and juicy. These noodle soups are very filling, but it was hard to stop eating.
Highly recommend Julie's Noodles for authentic, homemade noodles. Will definitely come back to try some of the other noodles...
Read moreCome here for the noodles - if you eat meat (little to no options for vegetarians) - and perhaps stick with the noodles on the menu to be safe. (Also, don’t expect a well-rounded meal because they don’t have vegetables on the menu almost at all.) Spicy beef noodle was a real pleasure but do keep in mind it’s very oily due to all of the Szechuan chili oil they add in. I left smiling from the flavor but the indigestion set in soon after leaving. Our favorite Szechuan restaurant is no less oily but we eat a big plate of Chinese greens with it and the rice does a better job soaking up the oils. There is nothing in Julie’s offerings that I can think will help with this. The vegetable noodle was just ok - mild in flavor, as expected, but really needed a lot more vegetables. The texture and taste of the noodles in the soups themselves is great regardless.
The scallion pancakes were actually not good - overly dry and crispy with an overpowering flavor of old oil and such a scant amount of scallions that I could not even really taste them.
The chicken potstickers- same thing. Overly fried in oil that wasn’t tasting fresh and not much flavor to it besides that and filling was dry. The dumpling sauce was too diluted as well.
Good vibe - lots of families and college students. Friendly service from staff. Would come again, but will be better informed about my...
