I recently determined that the #4 plate from Pepe's has become my 13 yr old grand daughters favorite food. She would literally eat it every day at any time she chose to eat....she loves it that much. This is a girl who definitely has her own thoughts on everything including food choices however, food has never been very important to her. Thankfully she eats to live versus her Mimi (me) who lives to eat. (LOL) I've been providing as much diversion as possible since she is recovering from a major surgery on her right leg. This has included a lot of small gifts from Amazon and any food that I can get for her to help keep her mind busy and her nutritional status in good shape. At any rate after giving these Birria Tacos a try, I totally get it!!! Their hours of operation are 11 AM to 8 PM. They are located at Lamar and 7th Street (Clarksville Area) which is a pretty good drive for us, but it's definitely worth it! Savory tender warm meat, filling a crispy, crunchy taco shell - dip it into the consommé for an awesome marriage of flavor. Ordering online is very easy and you can have curbside pick up or just go on up and get your food yourself. I had not had one of these popular tacos yet. It was nice to get the best of the best right off the bat. In case you have not tried Birria yet here is a definition of Birria Tacos- This is from Wikipedia. "Birria tacos are made from savory Mexican stew that perfectly combines sweet, savory and sour flavors and is stuffed into a tortilla. The genius did not end there. Once the stew is stuffed into a taco shell, it's battered in that same stew and then fried." Now then I can also recommend the Consommé that comes with the #4. The tacos are stuffed with the delicious meat stew and then topped with lots of onions and cilantro. The nice thing about getting your tacos made to order is I can request no cilantro and it's not a problem! Next, I intend to try the quesadilla and a torta! It's a pretty small menu but everything is executed perfectly! You can compliment your food choices with a soft drink, Mexican Coke and a bevy of fruit flavored Jalisco's. Regardless of your previous experience (or not) you may as well start...
Read moreBirria Tacos are the trend these days and I'm all about it. I recently visited Pepe's Tacos where that's all they do.
What even is birria? Good birria is a stew made up as a mixture of savory, sweet, earthy, smoky and spicy seasonings which gives the meat a lot of flavor.
I started off with their Taco Combo which comes with 3 Quesabirrias which are a hybrid between a taco and quesadilla where the tortillas are dipped in the birria to give it that color and flavor. It comes with a side of consome (beef broth) to dip. I enjoyed these, however I felt there could have been a bit more flavor in the meat itself in these, but that was easily fixed when I dipped it in the consome. ($10.50)
Next, I got their Torta and same concept as above but they dip the bread in the birria. Y'all, this one I enjoyed much more and was my favorite. The bread had this smokey, spicy flavor to it that really complimented it. Amazing! ($10)
Last, but not least: had to get the Birria Quesadilla. By default I like these more than the tacos as well because of the use of the flour tortilla and portion of the cheese. ($10)
All in all, the food came out swiftly, the prices are great, and there's some free parking available. This is a great spot to visit, so I...
Read moreNot a very good experience here, not sure if it’s because I came 10 minutes before close, although the worker in the truck took 2 peoples orders in line before me up until it was my turn at the window. Then told me he didn’t wanna take it, until he changed his mind and took me as the last order. Once I received my order, he then gave me a missing extra taco, and some kinda burnt birria tacos with no onions, or cilantro which I think is kinda basic and average to come with on a birria plate. Overall the food because of that wasn’t that good nor would I give that good of credit to the service, if you come to this place I guess don’t come anytime after 15-30 minutes close to close because you’ll be treated as your bussiness isn’t appreciated and time and money will be wasted. Definitely wouldn’t go here again, especially with the 2 birria plates I ordered (that weren’t very good ofc) and 2 sodas was $37 also……. Unfortunately....
