Tough decision had to be made because I enjoy both Vermicelli and Pho. I am in South Austin which is still like being in a foreign country for me. I am just not familiar with how to get around but I was visiting my granddaughter who just moved into a new apartment and I found out she had no pillows so I looked at Sam's Club which had some available that I thought she might enjoy. Out of the apartment I went in pursuit of Sam's. Amazingly it really wasn't that difficult to find and while perusing the parking lot I came across Pho With Us. Cute name! Well rated on yelp so why not? They have quite a nice menu with plenty of variety and multiple protein choices -the only thing that I found sad was I really would've loved to of had their special Banh Mi sandwich but they were not available on the to-go menu so I ended up ordering the Absolute Vermicelli Bowl. (I'm not sure why it carries the name but since we're all still dealing with masks pretty much everywhere I wasn't going to attempt to try to have a conversation with anyone when I went to pick it up.) Maybe next time. - The Vietnamese egg roll had been cut into about five diagonal pieces. The filling was good but it was not crispy at all because it was in a Styrofoam container that had been closed. The Vermicelli Bowl was in one of the larger Styrofoam containers. It was still nice and hot and was made to order. I had requested an egg and some extra pickled carrots, and of course no cilantro. They also a couple ounces of fish sauce and I had also ordered a small side of chili paste. The proportion of meat to noodles was great. The meat was the most tender flavorful meat I've ever gotten in a vermicelli bowl. Not sure what they use for marinade or tenderizer but whatever it was it worked! Sadly, there was cilantro all over the top of my meal and not just a little bit, A lot. In fact, I took a picture of what I picked out of my meal. This was very disappointing because in the order area under the vermicelli bowl I was able to add extras and subtract anything I didn't want so I put a checkmark in the box that said No Cilantro, then when it came to the special instruction area for the dish I also put "no cilantro" in that spot as well. It came out on the ticket perfectly well, in fact twice-so I'm not sure what the problem was..... I wish I liked it because it's so green and really does enhance the color of the dish but unfortunately the flavor that I taste when I get cilantro in my mouth is like dish soap soooo I don't care for it. Fortunately, I was able to retrieve most of it. I also ordered a Bao with Pork Belly. I'm really not sure why (other than I love pork belly) but whatever possessed me to think that I'd still be hungry?? So anyway I'm going to refrigerate it and have it tomorrow for lunch. I'll post a tip about it since I will close out this review and won't be able to get back in and edit it. I would recommend you give this place a try. I would also recommend that if there is something you don't want in your meal to make sure someone there understands that when you order it. The customer service was great when I picked it up too, so thank you to the young lady...
Read moreI went out to eat at this establishment this evening. I asked the server his recommendation between the Pho With Us and the Lobster Pho. I felt like he only recommended the Lobster Pho based on the price point of the dish (which I bartend and serve so I get it). I went with his recommendation. We also order Thai Teas. When I received our food, I took a few bites of it, but genuinely did not like it. I maybe took one bite out of one of the lobster tails and tried one scallop. I waited for awhile for the server to come back. My friend wasn’t even half way through eating her food and we still hadn’t received our Thai Teas when the server came to our table to drop the check. I politely informed him that I wasn’t satisfied with my food and he said he would need to check with the kitchen. A manager returned to our table and said he could replace the dish, but that I would need to pay 50% of the other bowl of pho. I declined the offer. I barely touched my food. We finally got our Thai Teas. A female server dropped off our check, which reflected poorly on our server. We had absolutely no issue with the server, but wished that the customer service experience would have been better and more accommodating. This was my first time trying pho and I was disappointed to be honest. I still left a 20% tip on the check, but would have been happy to tip higher if we had been better taken care of. I feel like because of the way we were dressed and because we were younger that we received a different level of customer service from the manager on duty.
I have never written a review ever in my life, but I really felt upset leaving...
Read moreFood was solid, albeit a bit on the higher end for pho. We had the special beef rib pho and the pho with brisket and ribeye. The amount of food was on the lower end, but the broth was quite good. The thai tea is also quite flavorful although it is definitely on the sweeter side.
The atmosphere is leagues ahead of your typical pho restaurant and the artwork for the restaurant is fantastic.
While the staff were fairly pleasant, our waitress was not attentive at all. She did not stop by once after we placed our order, until another table who had arrived about 15 minutes after we had placed our order got their food and she realized that we had never received our order at all.
Our pho took close to an hour and other tables that arrived after we had ordered received their food before us, including those with dishes that required cooking/frying on the spot. This was also not during a peak hour (between 1:30 to 2:30 pm). While the restaurant was busy, there was not a huge line of people. We had to put in our order again, after which our order did come out fairly quickly.
Since the soup for pho is prepared overnight, it should not take very long. Our waitress did briefly apologize, but did not offer an appetizer or something while we waited. This experience left a sour taste in my mouth and I will most likely not be coming back, which is unfortunate since the food and atmosphere are certainly...
