Definitely coming back although their service needs some work⁉️
Food we ordered: fresh spring rolls, papaya salad, chicken pad thai, guay teaw tom yum num khon (it think thats how you spell it) sorry I didn’t get to take photos since I was starving, we devoured it pretty much right away🤤 Will definitely be coming back for the papaya salad that was the BEST papaya salad I’ve ever tried here in America!!! It was so good. Just alittle on the sweeter side but still very good. Spring rolls were average, the wrapper was ripped so it was all over the place trying to eat it. Both taste of noodle dishes was amazing. Pad thai was just right and the guay teaw as well, although I got the seafood: squid was definitely rubbery and the shrimp was very much over cooked. Did not like the noodles but aside from that I would definitely order this again, I just hope I get it with the right noodles next time!
Service: we walked in…there was no one at the front desk so we grabbed a menu on the side since they had a sign to wait to be seated. There were people still coming in from the door despite having not a lot of room by the waiting area so they went to the very front. Pls keep in mind it was raining this day hence why no one said anything when they went inside despite having a line. And what do you know! As soon as someone got to the front desk they sat that group first, someone said something to the host but I don’t think she understood what he said since she just continued seating them(they were a big party too-i promise they are relevant to my story) After a few minutes we got sat and it took them a while before getting to us since it took a minute to get the order from the big group. This whole time there was only one server who also was the host! So we waited a for a bit before she took our order. Both our meals were with vermicelli noodles. After waiting for more than an hour on the food (yes I counted only because I was hungry) Food was amazing. BUT they came with the wrong noodles, they came with flat noodles instead of vermicelli. I would have complained if not for them being short staffed and we were told that there was only one person in the kitchen. Although honestly, when me and my friend were talking - we felt bad for the service staff but from a business point of view, I would rather close down the restaurant for the day than have a bad review on the services because of being short staffed or they could’ve implemented a waitlist so not everyone was waiting for the food and it would have given the kitchen and server some time to catch up. It also affects the servers income otherwise known as tips. But she sat all of us pretty much at the same time so they must have been overwhelmed. Food was definitely amazing. However, their service does need to be improved. As someone who’s worked both in the service and food industry, I understand the importance of having both. So if they continue giving crappy service, I’ll probably end up looking for a different Thai...
Read moreI used to go there a lot as I generally like the food. Last night my family and I went there for dinner and ordered a variety of dishes, which were good. The Mien Kum (leaves of lettuce loaded with toasted coconut, onions, dried shrimp, Thai peppers, etc.) is usually one of my favorites, but they had changed the recipe and it was definitely more blend, could not find Thai peppers, and it tasted like some ingredients were more artificial or lower quality: I was disappointed by that. My Tom Kha Gai was good, loaded with lemongrass, but not many kefir lime leaves or galangal, so it was not as good as it used to be either.
Mostly, customer service was an issue: the girl bringing us water was not wearing a mask, so I politely asked our server (who was wearing a mask herself) if it would be possible to have either someone else wearing a mask or have the water girl putting on a mask before coming to serve us water, our server, who was about to take our order, immediately acted offended and pushed back.
I replied politely that I just wanted only masked waiters at our table because we were not wearing masks when eating and she could potentially be a vector of Covid to us, especially since she was serving and was in close proximity with many customers who might not be vaccinated or who might be sick and she had a high chance of being exposed Our waitress then stormed out without taking our order as she had started asking us for initially,, ran to the kitchen and started yelling in the kitchen, but not in English so I could not understand what she was saying.
It took her almost 10 minutes to come back, and she told us the manager said that because no-one in the kitchen was wearing a mask anyway, and because the water girl was vaccinated, it was ok.
I had to again insist that I was not trying to be difficult and that anyone wearing a mask could refill our waters but I did not want an unmasked waiter breathing on us while we were eating. She flippantly asked if she should change all our waters then... when I said no we simply want only masked waiters at our table, she left and came back again, then finally took our order and served our dinner normally, but I noticed that our waters were not refilled after that.
Bottom line is: this is very poor customer service
if they can't understand or accommodate a polite request like this one, then stomp out rudely and come back with an attitude about it. The manager should have been more customer friendly and accommodating, especially with such a simple request, instead of making us feel like we were bad customers.
Here is the kicker: I am up at 3am with diarrhea - which I almost never get... coincidence? I think not.
Very, very disappointed - the service was awful and...
Read moreWe are new to Austin and have been on the hunt for an amazing Pad See Ew. After reading the comments a Facebook post I was really excited to try Sap's! Unfortunately, it didn't go that well... We did a pick up-- food was ready on time. There were a few tables dining and the place looked nice.
Got home and took pictures as I unboxed-- first disappointment was that they forgot my "extra side of rice." Not a big deal bc it's $1.50, but that was my picky daughter's food. We ordered a Pad See Ew with shrimp for my husband, a Pad See Ew with beef for me, a Tom Kha soup and for a bonus (lunch for tomorrow) the Pad Cha with catfish. Not sure why we picked that (we usually get a green curry dish) but after reading the description, I thought my husband would like it! So, the catfish dish was supposed to come with rice on the side, along with my extra rice for my daughter-- we only got one, so the dish was sideless :(
Soup- pretty good! We ordered with fried tofu. It was quite strong so we added a little water to dilute. Not the best one we've had, but definitely enjoyable.
Sap's rolls--quite good
Pad See Ew- so here's the thing. My beef one was completely dry and lacked any sauce. I liked the Chinese broccoli and the beef was good, but how is it dry? It was such a disappointment. Probably after the 6th time I complained out loud to my husband, he let me taste his shrimp one and it was FANTASTIC! It had the perfect amount of sauce and had amazing flavor. I would give it 5 stars-- my dish gets a low 2. I'm really stumped at how 2 dishes, made for the same order can be so different.
Pad Cha w/catfish. Not what we expected. Had much more sauce? Broth? than the soup we ordered. Since we didn't have rice (daughter ate hers) my husband fished out a piece of catfish and had trouble finishing and swallowing. He said the taste was intense-- not sure if it was too salty or spicy but definitely could not eat another bite. I'm sad that we didn't give the the green curry a try... and after dishing out $16 for it I'm hoping to get my dad to try it later.
If I could guarantee that next time we would both get amazing pad see ews, I would definitely go back, even though the soup is too concentrated.
My quest for amazing noodles...
