Two visits: first time the store was closed during posted hours, second I was overcharged according to their drive-thru menu.
The first time I went on a Sunday at 4:45pm, and they were closed. They're supposed to be open until 5pm, but being that it was a Sunday I wasn't going to hold this against them too much.
But the second time I went I also experienced apparent overcharging just like the two earlier reviews. I pulled up in the drive-thru and looked at the menu, the two Items I wanted were $2.09 each. With tax that should be $4.52. But the guy said $5.00.
I said "the menu says $2.09 each, that's $4.18, with tax should be $4.52." The guy said "Yeah our menu is still a little messy". I was like "what does 'messy' mean? The price is clear on the menu."
Another guy comes over and repeats that the cost is $5.00. He says that they've "called to get their menu fixed but they haven't done it yet". Didn't matter what I said, he wouldn't come off the $5.00 price.
I checked the prices at the other Shipley's on Brodie, and the same items are indeed $2.50 over there-- and have been since mid-2017. So I can't fault them about that. But it seems really stupid that this place is brand-new, yet they installed a five-year-old menu for the drive thru? They aren't even trying to correct the menu themselves by putting handwritten prices on it? And they don't say up-front at the window that the prices on the menu are wrong, and worst of all (this is what I'm giving a poor rating for), don't apologize for the issue, much less offer to honor the price on the menu. It's like the people working there don't have a clue about why customers are confused or what they would expect in this kind of situation.
I'm giving them two stars because the apple fritters are pretty tasty and not...
Read moreUPDATED REVIEW AND SCORE AFTER TALKING TO THE STORE OWNER:5 star. The owner called me to discuss the issue and apologize for the service we had. We discussed how the workers were not rude or mean but just unwilling to do anything. I mentioned some ways the associates could have done things better and she agreed and said they have already spoke to their staff. She took care of our order and gave us our refund and even sent us coupons for a future purchase. Several associates in our office use this location and haven't had issues, maybe we just got caught on a bad day. Worth another shot.
1 Star: Ordered on their website last week (2 dozen donuts, Dozen Kolaches and an order of Donut Holes)to deliver to our office today for an event. I get a text from the Uber Delivery driver (they contracted the delivery out) apologizing for being late but that the store was being rude and wouldn't give them part of our order (Kolaches) so they had to show them with their app that we had ordered Kolaches. The delivery driver delivers the order and we are missing the donut holes and the donuts are not what we ordered as we custom built our donut boxes. I call the store to get a refund for the donut holes (not even mentioning their failure to detail) and they say they can't refund online orders and that I can come pick up the donuts if I want but they weren't delivering them. I went through their website on purpose as to not make them deal with a third party and they offered zero service. So I am contesting our charge for the order. They could be out $5 but instead they are out $65. Get some...
Read moreWhile I don't have anything necessarily negative to say about the food, I will say it is VERY awkward to be asked to leave a tip every single time, especially on a $2 donut order. Everytime I go through the drive-thru, they asked me if I want to leave a tip. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to leave a $5 tip for $2 worth of donuts. And one time when I said no to the tip on the card but handed them $0.50 cents in change instead, they rolled their eyes and made ME feel like crap. I gave them a 25% tip and only after they asked me. - that's more than I tip at an actual restaurant. It puts me in a very awkward position and makes me not want to come to this location. It's the ONLY shipley's Donuts that has ever done this to me. In fact, this is the only donut place I've ever been to that has ever asked about a tip. What's next? Will the McDonald's cashier start asking for a tip when I order coffee? Or the gas attendant when I put $5 of gas in? I can understand if it was a $100 rush order or I was picking up 6 dozen donuts on short notice, but not $2 worth of donuts in drive-thru.
They really shouldn't be asking. Very inappropriate.
Speaking of drive-thrus, if you value your car or its wheels, do NOT go through the drive-thru. GO INSIDE. There is a pothole the size of a Harlem Globetrotter in the middle of the lane that is impossible to miss. They have tried to fill it with rocks and gravel, but sadly it doesn't do anything to help as they always get kicked out of the hole.
Perhaps they should use the 250% tips they guilt people into paying and fix the...
