If you need something to get you sorted out for the day, come here! The food is DELICIOUS and the prices don’t hurt our pockets- my friend and I split the Italian beef and it didn’t even need the au jus- we had to slurp up the juice from the sandwich beef itself, let alone dipping it in the au jus…. I’m honestly used to dry subs that I need to drench in mayo so this was a welcome surprise!
The service was quick, the location was clean, and the staff were great! They all seemed to get along with each other and have a good flow. The person preparing our sandwich heard us make the order and got started right away, so we got our sandwich real quick! The staff gave us good recommendations when they saw us all looking at the menu for a while, and even the customers pitched in to tell us- they recommend the spicy Italian, but it seems you can’t go wrong with whatever you choose.
This place seems to get a lot of repeat customers of all sorts, too- many people came in and were greeted by name, greeting the staff by name in return. They looked friendly and happy to be there, making idle chatter with the staff and even strangers like myself. One guy looked over at my Italian beef and said “great choice”!!
Everyone’s food came out fast and was very tasty! The staff showed concern for my friend who was carsick as well, offering to get her water which we found to be very sweet.
When I was asking our cashier about the soup of the day, he said he’d be happy to get me a little shot of it to try… it slipped both our minds for a few minutes but he went and got it for me anyway (which I was impressed he remembered, because the store was BUSY!) and when I tried the roasted red bell pepper soup I was hooked!! One of my fave soups EVER, just sad I wasn’t able to get myself a bowl because I had to catch a flight back home.
Do yourself a favor and get a big ole sandwich, some chips (and/or a bowl of soup!!) and a lemon ginger soda. You can’t go wrong with anything here, my only regret was being too full to get myself more soup because WOW, that was one of the best soups I’ve ever tried. They’re killing it here, hope you give it a shot :)if I lived here I’d definitely become an...
Read moreGot the Italian Beef, Italian sausage and Gourmet Italian. The beef on the Italian Beef really did have no flavor, and the au jus that came with it had virtually no beef flavor. It was the right color but tasted mostly like vinegar mixed with water. I'm going to try using beef flavored "better than bullion" to see if I can get some flavor into the Italian Beef. The Italian beef is chopped and shredded and not long thin slices of beef like I'm used to from Chicago. I don't know what they do with all the fat and flavor they boil out of the beef but it isn't in the au jus.
The bread they use is good but if you get a hot sandwich eat it in the store or the bread will be ruined by the time you get home, and you'll need to substitute your own roll for theirs.
The Italian sausage meat has a good taste but even though I asked them to hold the oil and vinegar on all 3 sandwiches you still get oil and vinegar on the Sandwhich through the lettuce, peppers and onions they use. The peppers and onions are pickled in some kind of oil and vinegar based liquid instead of being properly roasted. So they are wet, and give the sandwich an oil and vinegar salad flavor whether you want it or not. For me oil and vinegar ruins the bread in short order and greatly distracts from the flavors of the meat and cheeses one is trying to get.
The gourmet Italian is a cold sandwich and it held up much better for the trip home and storage in the refrigerator. However you are better off telling them to not only hold the oil and vinegar but also the few bits of lettuce, peppers, and onions from the sandwich. You can add your own lettuce and onion to the sandwich when you get home that will be fresher and lack the oil and vinegar pickling liquid.
The meat on the Gourmet Italian is good and overall the sandwich is pretty good. Best of the 3 for sure.
Sadly overall the sandwiches are not worth the drive from Kyle. I had hoped...
Read moreI love this place and have been a customer for 20 years. I hate leaving a negative review, but my last 2 visits have been bad. The manager is rude and unprofessional to customers and workers alike. Last time I was there the manager got angry when I thought he was making my sandwich wrong and told me not to tell him how to do his job. I got home and my sandwich was in fact wrong. I called and the manager said he would credit my card. This never happened. Today, I went to pick up an online order. The Italian beef sandwich whole plus sweet bell peppers. When I arrived, I asked if I could purchase a second au jus, as the sandwich was going to be split. The employee helping me said sure, since it's a whole sandwich, I can give you a second one. The manager then butts into the conversation and asks why don't we just split the au jus that comes with the sandwich? Again, I had offered to pay. The employee helping me went ahead and gave me the au jus. The manager then stood behind the counter and berated the employee who was telling him he was told by another manager that he could give a second au jus with a whole sandwich. I was tempted to call out the manager on his attitude and the fact that he had never credited me for my previous bad experience. I held my tongue and left. Upon arriving home and unwrapping my sandwich, I found that my sandwich once again was incorrect. There was just beef with no cheese or bell peppers. So, here's the much deserved negative review. It is my belief that employees of this location will also attest to this manager's rude and unprofessional behavior. In 20 years, I had never had any bad experience at either location. Great local business with usually very nice and longterm staff. Delicious food when the store is managed by someone who cares about the tradition of outstanding food and friendly service. The manager in question should be let go or demoted. Sorry to say, but...
