A true Austin gem, Upper Crust Bakery is an icon in the bakery-sandwich-soup arena. Family members have been going to Upper Crust for decades and introduced me to the establishment when I moved to Austin 15 years ago. A "go to" place for a super delicious sandwich/soup combo for lunch, a mainstay for ordering fantastic cakes for family celebration occasions, and a great place to stop of a slice of delicious cake or pie with a cup of coffee. This stop featured a "spider-themed" cake (red velvet cake) for a birthday party, as well as my customary slice of Italian Cream Cake. Sampled the Italian Cream cake last evening, deelish as always! Birthday party is later today, so no intel on the red velvet cake as of the time of writing. No doubt it will be a solid 10/10, as always! Great Central Austin location. Staff is always friendly and helpful! Parking can be tricky in the small lot next to the building, you can turn north into the back parking lot off of 45th Street, just be aware it can be tight traveling back there ... two-way traffic (so says the sign), but if there are cars parked back there, it's one car through at a time, whichever way you're going. Highly recommend UCB! PS... RE: the pic of the eating area, it was closing time when we stopped by to pick up the cake, that's why the place looks empty, it's usually packed!

Love love love!!!! Been coming here forever and will keep coming. My daughter grew up coming here. Best cinnamon rolls in town. But if you get here late you will find and empty display. See pic 1. If this happens to you, there’s so many good options here. I love the apple pie!!! The oatmeal cookies are crunchy and chewy. The smoked turkey sandwich with all the fixings is a must. The bread is so good here. I love their whole wheat bread. You can taste the nutty deep flavor. I have tried to replicate at home and it’s not the same. Love their lentil soup and all the cakes are awesome. I’m a baker myself and if I can’t bake a cake, I come here and get one. The carrot cake, chocolate mocha and Italian cream cakes are my favorite!!! The quiche is good here too! Everything is good here!!! Friendly and it busy because they’re that good!

If you need cakes in central Austin, go to Upper Crust. I had 3 birthdays to buy cakes for. For the first cake, I went with Edis Bakery and while the flavor was amazing, the decoration was poor. And the cost was $85! I even got a quote from La Patisserie and the cost was $85. The last quote I got was from Heaven’s Bistro, which was $95 to $135. I was panicking for cakes #2 and #3 but I stumbled upon the Upper Crust website. What a godsend. The cakes we got were beautifully decorated, tasted amazing, and cost maybe $45-60 each. (I can’t remember exactly but it was so extremely reasonable) My kids loved the Upper Crust cakes and said they want them next year for their birthdays!

I rarely leave reviews, but I feel it’s important to share my experience so others don’t go through the same disappointment. I was recommended this bakery, placed a custom engagement cake order on a Monday and clearly requested to pick it up Saturday morning. The day before pickup, just an hour before closing, I was suddenly told by Madison that I had to pick it up Friday before 4 PM because the bakery would be closed Saturday. This was extremely frustrating and confusing since their posted hours are Monday–Saturday until 4 PM.

When I rushed from work to pick it up, I was shocked to see the cake looked nothing like what I had ordered. The colors, the writing, the design—none of it was correct. To make matters worse, when I spoke with the manager, Amanda, she initially tried to deny that I had ever been told to pick up the cake Friday. Fortunately, I had the voicemail and written message proving otherwise, which I replayed for her. Even then, she downplayed it rather than taking accountability.

Amanda told me to come back Saturday morning at opening (7 AM), saying “the earlier the better.” I arrived right at 7 AM, only to be told there was absolutely nothing they could or would do to make it right.

The entire experience—from the misleading pickup information, to the poor quality of the cake, to the dishonest and dismissive response from management—was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. An engagement is such an important occasion, and instead of delivering what was promised, this bakery caused unnecessary stress and disappointment. Based on my experience, I CANNOT in good faith recommend this...

What an adorable bakery with an amazing staff! Stopped by to get a bite to eat to bring back to work and am so glad I did.

The building is a bit older on the outside but inside, it is clean and charming. There are tables to dine inside or just grab a cup of joe or a bakery item, its a place to relax and enjoy some good food. The aroma of baked goods just draws you in.

The bakery case is very impressive with the wide assortment of baked goods from cakes and cookies to savory pies and pastries and so much more.

I ordered a Sausage Puff and a Spinach Ricotta round I saw so many good reviews on and they were all accurate.

The Sausage Puff is almost like a Kolache but not quite the same, its more of a croissant type dough around a huge tasty sausage, so light and flaky as well as savory and filling. They even offer a side of some yummy deli type mustard to go with it. Yummy....

The Spinach Ricotta round is delectable. The dough is so light, flakey, buttery, fresh, and heavenly. The spinach ricotta filling is perfect, just the right ratio of dough to filling and its creamy with well balanced flavor. Delicious!

This will definitely not be my only visit! I highly recommend this place to any one who likes baked goods. There is soo much the choose from and the staff...
