Taco Shack — Restaurant in Austin

I'm confused by the reviews.. Better than Torchys? Hardly! B-fast tacos here are fine; hence the 3 stars. Same for Spicewood location. But I just visited for dinner. Ordered a chix fajita + carne guisada flour tacos + an order of queso --all drive-thru. Tacos lacking in content & quality. Queso was probably the worst I've ever had. Once home, it had cooled into a side order of hardened Velveeta with no flavor, no chiles. Little cups of 'hot sauce' lousy also. I couldn't believe I'd just paid $15 for these 3 terrible Tex-Mex representatives. There are too many other places within a mile radius that surpass.. esp for the price! Service was good. So this has always been my favorite taco shack but its become obvious after my visit today that its no longer the same. The straws don't bend, the cups and bags don't say their name... they are cutting costs and its sad. It means they are on their way out. The lobby usually packed was empty and I seen only one familuar face. From the rumors I hear, the owners BBQ place isn't doing so well.. maybe thats why he is cutting his overhead. Tacos are pretty good but they are kinda expensive.. I hate to leave this review but I feel like since this has happened too many times I must let others know. I’ve told staff as well about it… multiple times I’ve gotten soda from their soda machine & I have had black chunks of slimy mold in my cup. Once it was so bad that every time I dumped the soda and refilled there was chunks every time.. I recommend just buying a canned drink from their fridge.. which is what I do...
