This place used to be much better. I honestly did not recognize it after maybe a couple of years of not going. Just as a side note, I am argentine if that makes any difference to you. First of all, it must be hard to know what to do when you walk in for the first time as it is not very clear whether you should sit down and order or if you should stand in line and if the line is in fact for the food or the bakery...or to order cuts of meat...? It is a bit of a mess is what I'm trying to convey. Also, the service is just not good. I felt like I was bothering the whole time I was ordering and if you get stuck on a decision you'll get all the sighs and eye rolling you can get, which is a major turn off when trying to enjoy a nice weekend lunch. It was very busy on that day but it is not my problem and I should not suffer the consequences as a customer. And finally, the food... I ordered a vacio sandwich; first mistake was to order a steak sandwich as opposed to a piece of steak with a side. It was basically a piece of steak shoved in between two previously frozen pieces of baguette with some tasteless and dry lettuce and a couple of tomatoes. It was quite pathetic to be honest. The meat was not bad and tasted pretty good but I expect meat in an argentine place to taste at least great. It was also a bit cold which did not help. Overall, the sandwich lacked any type of effort or dedication to making it. Finally, the coffee and pastries were excellent! Overall, it was not the most pleasant experience and the food was very average especially for the price as it is not cheap...at all! ... I would only go back there on a slow day during the week maybe to have a cup of coffee with an alfajor de maizena as both are excellent but that's about it. I was pretty disappointed as an ex very...
Read moreThis store is essentially a cafe/mini-grocery/wine/beer/butcher shop. The dining area, food counter and register occupy the first half of the space. Venture further into the store to find the butcher counter and the rest. The wine and beer selection in the store are very respectable.
I have visited here a few times over the past year, and my family has also been here more frequently. The food is delicious. The empanadas are outstanding. I have sacrificed baggage fees to take dozens back home with me. If you are a proud carnivore, order the Parilladas samplers; oh, what meaty goodness.
This place can get very busy, so I would recommend that you scan the handwritten menus that hang over the counters, or grab the printed menu before approaching the display case to make an order. Of course, you will probably wind up as I do: face pressed onto the glass display cases stuffed with assorted stuffed pies, pastries, and desserts. The pace kind of explains the attitude you may receive from the employees, as others have noted. Personally, I thought the employees seemed very quick and to-the-point to keep up with the inevitable lines of patrons that build up. However, they have been courteous always.
TIP: just like any other place; if you are going to wait in line for 5+ minutes only to step up to trap an employee while you DECIDE what to order - you deserve an eyeroll and exasperation.
The place will get busy throughout the day. If you rather have a more private or laidback affair, I would recommend making your order togo. FYI: You can phone in to-go orders.
TIP If you are driving north to the Estancia, I highly recommend taking W. Dixie hwy to NE 179th St., to turn right (south) onto Biscayne Blvd. Otherwise, you can expect delays trying to make a (slightly dangerous) U-turn on...
Read moreLet’s have been a local favorite for a while and there’s a good reason. This is a quick easy friendly spot to have a good reliable meal at great prices. It’s not fine dining it’s good quality food served in a friendly place, really I don’t know what time you could ask for. I started with a Morcilla which I happen to love. If that’s not what you’re into don’t worry there are plenty of other options. We have a bone in ribeye steak which was large! Maybe even a portion for two! Followed by the chicken milanesa which was a perfectly done milanesa! Like perfect! And the potato salad was delicious. Both were definitely shareable portions or even better abortion for lunch tomorrow! You absolutely can’t help but order dessert since they have a huge display of them and they all look so good, I had to try the tiramisu which absolutely did not disappoint. It was so creamy I was in heaven.
Lately I’ve been a stickler for service, I seem to enjoy places more when everyone around is friendly and displays it all the marks. Everyone was friendly, they seem to even be helping each other and no one seemed grumpy when you asked for something. I was welcomed with a giant smile and that already changed the case for my entire meal.
As far as a little grocery store part goes there is a large selection of wines which are ranging in prices so it’s a great place to stop in before a dinner party pick up a bottle of wine and some...
