We have been coming here for several years and always have an enjoyable time. Last year we had the pleasure of meeting the owner and what a treat that was. She was absolutely delightful. So of course we returned again and what a difference a change in staff makes. The lady at the register ( I use the term lady at this point) was intently reading something that must have been more interesting than engaging conversation with my wife and I. I figured I would start some playful banter about the difference in a muffin and a scone. Keep in mind that the establishment is named "muffins and scones". Long story short, after a few rounds of verbal floundering, it resulted in a scone looks like this. Superb. We got soups and grilled cheese and per usual the food was very good. My wife ordered hers in a bread bowl, which is 2 dollars extra and received hers in a paper cup. No big deal, didn't want to make a scene or send food back and the lady (again, using that term for now) was apologetic and offered to substitute. We were satisfied with our food and said it was fine and declined. This is where the real fun began. Blissfully unaware, I missed the two employees in the kitchen saying "I'll give them the two GD (that's an expletive I'd rather not post in a review) dollars put of my own pocket. Just a heads up girls, those kitchen doors being shut doesn't mean you're in a soundproof room. If you're going to bash customers, maybe go about it a little more discreetly, or better yet, not at all! We were refunded two dollars at our table, in cash, mid-meal. So if anyone enjoys eating while being verbally berated this place is great. I give the two rating and not one because of our previous experiences. As a business owner, I would hope customers would reach out to me about poor experiences that are a direct result of employee negligence. One last suggestion is that if there arent any customers in the store, wipe down dirty tables so the diners dont have to themselves. Hopefully this helps the owner, because from what I've seen, the employees...
Read moreSummary: This will be our new spot to stop before hitting the road to head home, and we may end up going in at least once more during our stay!
Killer breakfast sandwiches and pastries. Loved it. Order at counter and sit down or take to-go. Fairly fast service from what I could tell, but I did not see any group larger than 3 order.
So glad the other spot we went to had already stopped serving breakfast otherwise we would have missed this gem. Another review mentioned poor service - we experienced none. Everyone was polite with smiling faces. Adaptable to my indecision as well! We did not feel rushed when ordering and our questions about the menu were addressed in a friendly manner.
We went overboard with our order but prepped for the drive: 2 breakfast bagel sandwiches, 2 smoothies, 2 turnovers, 2 coffees, and 2 extra bagels with cream cheese for later.
Everything crushed. Bagels were great NY style, chewy and made in house. Apparently all the baked goods are made in house. Huge plus. Smoothies were so good. The bagels we saved for later were such a good choice. Really hit the road snack craving a few hours into the drive. The turnovers we didn't eat until the next day and they were still so good even a little stale. A perk of everything being made fresh daily, I'm sure.
Our orders (we kept getting more stuff as mentioned!) came out fairly fast, but if you are in a large group I would allocate a reasonable amount of time, most of which will probably be spent looking over the extensive (and...
Read moreI had a terrible experience with Muffins and Scones last week. My wife's birthday was while we would be in NC, so I thought to order a cake. I had corresponded with the bakery on facebook 2 weeks ago, confirming the order. Though their facebook page (and google) states that they are open until 7pm, the sign on the door indicated that they were only open until 3. The next day, I called to confirm hours and pick up. The lady on the phone explained that the cake I ordered was no longer available (who would have purchased a cake with my wife's name on it?), though they had another similar one available. The lady said that they would write happy birthday on it and have it ready when I came by in a few minutes. When I arrived, I was told that the cake was not ready, and it would be at least an hour until the cake would be finished. I was offered a premade ice cream cake if I did not want to wait. They were happy to write my original message on it. I was disappointed but happy to settle to have a cake to celebrate, even if it was a day late. When I arrived back at our rental, I discovered that on the cake the message I asked for was not written. My wife's name was also misspelled despite my instructions a few minutes prior, which specified my wife's name. I'm generally able to overlook most of these issues on their own, though together this is a major problem. Don't trust this shop for anything you...
