Updated edit * I was fortunate enough to be able to rent a second time with Hattiebuilt. It was another excellent experience. They maintain their vehicles so well they always appear brand new. This time I inadvertently went over the expected mileage which was not a problem, the additional fee did not bother me. I was renting a house an hour away from their shop & that tacked on a few extra hours of driving. In the future I’d rent a house closer to them rather than use a different car rental service. The couple who run the rental/shop are the good, conscientious, and caring sort who are uplifting to be around. That reminds me of my first visit there. I had a very meaningful conversation with them about changes in life & the impacts on my special needs son. It was not a talk either of us expected to have that day. It was real life & struggle met with true empathy and gentle knowledgeable guidance. I’m looking forward to renting again before year’s end.

~First rental: You would never know you were in a shop to rent a vehicle! They have a lovely selection of beach/ocean themed items for sale. I picked up a pair of cute sunglasses while I was there. The laid back positive vibes of the cute shop translated over to the rental experience. Least stress ever renting & no feeling of anyone trying to add on charges. The vehicle was clean, gorgeous, and performed seamlessly. The owners of Hattiebuilt are the best. We rented Hattie1 (Jeep Wrangler) from them for two days and from the first encounter to the last, we were treated as if we had known them for years. It was our daughter’s birthday and she wanted to drive on the beach and have some time away from the craziness of the other beaches. We were not disappointed. Hattie1 was a good companion for two days and allowed us to do things we had never done before. Their lifestyle brand is so cool and we purchased a couple of hats and few other items. My wife and I are so thankful for Jeff, his wife and Hattiebuilt for saving our trip to Ocracoke Island. Last week we drove down from Maryland in our own jeep and experienced some brake issues. Luckily, we found Hattiebuilt and was able to rent a Jeep from them so we could continue on to Ocracoke. I was stressing about trying to find a place so far from home that could service our Jeep. Jeff and his wife offered to fix our Jeep brakes while we were on the island. Not only did they save our trip but fixed our Jeep at an extremely fair price.
