Burger Burger Island Bites Avon, NC — Restaurant in Avon

Called in to place a pick up order and was asked to hold. I could hear the female who answered the phone finish ringing someone up, but she didn't come back to the phone. While I was on hold, she had a personal conversation, taken another order, and welcomed others to the restaurant. I drove up there while on hold assuming they were busy. When I arrived, there was 1 gentleman at the register, and already seated were one large family and 2 other couples. I approached the register and informed the lady I was still on hold to place an order (11min, 50secs) and she could hang up. She picked the phone up that was tucked down beside the register, chuckled, said sorry, and blamed it on the other young lady working with her. I just assumed they were busy and they forgot, it happens. As the lady took my order, she answered an incoming call (didn't say excuse me or anything else to me) and tossed the phone down on the counter and told the other young lady to take the order. The other young lady was getting another order together to run to a table, but she did so immediately. Then, the lady repeated part of my order to me incorrectly and when I corrected it, she said she thought that it was weird (classic burger with jalapeños). As I waited on our order, I became very displeased. She grossly described clams and oysters to customers placing an order next to me. She made a lot of meaningless and unnecessary small talk with guests that she was ringing up (beyond being friendly and personable), she fixed herself a drink, and she ran 2 plates to the larger table to help the other young lady. The other young lady was definitely working hard and running circles around this woman. It was her who put together our order, bagged it, and then apologized for the long wait. It was obvious that she did not answer the phone and put me on hold. The food: The burger was mediocre, not what was expected having the restaurant called "Burger, Burger". My daughter only got 4 wings in the 6 piece wing order. Although the shrimp basket had 9 small pieces of shrimp, they were delicious! The one hush puppy was good. Took a bite of the cole slaw and it was ok, but pretty warm...The fries were substituted with fried okra, which were AMAZING! The shrimp quality, the portion and taste of the okra, and the wonderful young lady that was falsely accused of leaving me on hold are the only reason I gave the 2...

Buyer Beware - Know the Fees!

Last week we came in and were told it would be 45min. Because they "ran out of food". We decided to give it another go since we haven't tried this place since they were sold to new management.

We (4 people) came in for 4 hamburgers, 1 hotdog, and 2 teas. Our credit card was charged 91.61😳 I started to ask about the cost of the teas and asked for an itemized receipt. The cahsier said you didn't get one? Sigh. She then informed me they add 10% for orders over $75. She said every business on the island is doing that. (They're not.) The sign is not prominent stating this and was covered up by other signs during our transaction. I then did additional math and total before tax was 73.98 so I asked for an itemized receipt. The cahsier had to get the manager/owner to do that. It was then I saw they added a $8 open food charge to our bill. Which pushed us over $75 but was clearly not actually 10%.

I told them this and they reluctantly gave me $8 back. On a side note we were also charged a credit card fee and taxes on this open food charge 🤔

The owner then came over to apologize saying they were trying to stay in business and poor mouth me about costs going up. I told her I understood that, but it was hard to believe when she is charging $14 for a 6 oz. burger on a bun with ketchup. $16 for most of the other burgers. She claimed it was Hereford beef and was more expensive. I disagree that her beef is costing her (at bulk prices) over $30/lb. She said she had not gotten any other complaints.

Later she came over to refund our entire order in cash. We returned the money before we left as we weren't looking for a refund. I applaud her effort to provide good customer service but she needs to run her business in more a growth mindset. She is charging enough for her food to make money. Something else is wrong.

For the food: the burgers here are good but ours were overcooked. The chips aren't spiced anymore. This place was better run under the previous management and you can go to their burger nights on Thursday night and get better service. It's not worth the price...

Amazing place! Delicious food and friendly people. 5/5 for sure. Burger Burger is conveniently located right off of NC 12 directly across from Avon Cottages so it's a easy to walk across the street to grab some quick and delicious food if you're staying the night. They have a walk up window so if you you want to stay outside you have that option. They're service is fast and friendly so if you're just traveling down NC12 and want a quick bite I'd recommend them. They offer call ahead ordering so if you are in a rush they got you covered. Their menu is well sized and they have plenty more than just burgers. They have tastey milkshakes, scrumptious hotdogs, easy to take on the drive wraps, healthy salads, and some delectable seafood items. The staff are some of the friendliest people I've met and the island vibes are real. They are knowledgeable of the area and will help out in any way the can. They have a small table outside to enjoy your meal and the weather on the nicer days. Their desserts are certainly top notch. They have a relatively good sized seating area inside and still will fill up. I've had multiple visits here including before and during the Coronavirus outbreak and the have been keeping up with the proper safety procedures and regulations given by the CDC. They are doing a fantastic job at practicing social distancing and keeping everyone safe. In conclusion I would highly recommend...
