We have never been to the Ketch 55 in all the years we have been coming to Avon. I am giving this a one star because the drinks were five bucks and you got 4 samplers on the margaritas. We both had terrible meals as I got the fried chicken and she got the Seafood Lasagna. I been cooking for many years and that fried chicken isn't like the fried chicken I fix. I believe they must marinate the chicken because it had a funny taste to it. The chicken was not the crispy chicken that I make or your mother makes. The coating was terrible as there was no coating on it. So I only ate a small part of the four piece chicken and that wasn't much because of the taste. The mashed potatoes were not smooth and creamy they looked like a pull apart kind of mashed potatoes. So, lets move on to her Seafood Lasagna.....I have never seen Seafood Lasagna like that. The noodles were hard and not soft and the sauce was suppose to be a creamy white sauce and it was not it looked more like a watery soup. I cook Lasagna and that doesn't look like anything that I would ever put on a plate. She didn't eat very much of it at all or hardly nothing but some pieces of Seafood. It could be that maybe the fried seafood is better and should have ordered something fried....don't know. We had to go somewhere else to get something to eat and to get that terrible taste out of my mouth from the chicken.....I don't know all of these people that are giving this place five stars but either they are flat out crazy or they got a better meal than we did.....I will say the service was good, the gentleman that waited on us was totally great and none of this was his fault at all. I hated to leave the smaller tip that I did which wasn't a lot but someone has to get thru to the people in the back that the food was terrible and not acceptable. I am an excellent cook, know how to cook and hey I watch Gordon Ramsey on Hells Kitchen about the food than is terrible. It was over priced as $17.00 for fried chicken...seriously and $22.00 for her Seafood Lasagne for that kind of meal.....totally over priced. One thing for sure I will not be going back to the place to eat. I think they need a cook or chef that knows how to cook and make flipping fried chicken like it is suppose to be made. I wonder if that was frozen chicken that they just thru in the deep fryer... Some of you may love the place but be forwarned there are better place to eat around here and in Buxton. Am sorry if I have offended the owners but I call them like I see them and hope that they don't give canned comments on here. Maybe I need to go back in the cooking area and show them how to make fried chicken and...
Read moreI'm not quite sure where to start. The first impression was that the service sucked, and it continued. Our waitress was rude, in a hurry, and definitely made us feel like an inconvenience. It wasn't busy enough for that hatefulness from her. Drinks: refills were nonexistent. I ordered a whiskey sour and got a straight bourbon. Food: fried Pickles were delightful once we FINALLY got them. One member of our group has an allergy so she confirmed if the fryers were cross contaminated- it was originally reported as yes because there was a miscommunication due to new chefs, and they didn't speak English. The owner later told us the waitress miscommunicated and the fryers were fine - after she could only eat mashed potatoes (which came out wrong) and broccoli (that came out late). I was asked how I wanted my salmon cooked (that was a first), I said completely as I like it flakey and not raw, the waitress went back and forth with me until she said, "okay fine if you want it dry." Spoiler: it came out raw and cold so I sent it back. Second spoiler: the banging shrimp was also undercooked and seemed like bad shrimp. The two burgers were ordered medium and came out past well-done and charred. The fries were really good, though. Only one meal (of 7) came out right. The waitress had no intention of doing anything but taking my salmon entree off; my boyfriend approached the owner about it, who was drinking at the bar. She apologized tremendously and was kind but why did we have to go find someone to "make it right." They comped my salmon and took 50% all the bills, and the 20% service charge remained. Atmosphere was cool otherwise; they had a really cool violinist there as live entertainment. That coupled with the fried pickles were the only way...
Read moreHostess was not polite and bordered on rude. Bartender was good. Refused to consider any substitutions because "the kitchen was busy". Since I'm unable to respond to your response. The hostess was unfriendly upon our entering your facility. We were appreciative of letting us move to a table from the bar. As for the substitution, not my recipe. Just asked if a diffent sauce could be used. The sauces were listed on YOUR menu. Didn't ask for a new sauce to be made. Wasn't even told, let me ask the cheif if it was a possibility. It is understandable if it was not able to be done. Maybe the experince would have been better if we had been offered the table after it was cleared, not recieved dirty looks after moving to the table, and comment made after I had asked about substituting the sauce when the bartender said something to the hostess. Though I did not hear the comment, I am able to read lips from a previos job. If you, the owner was there or one of the people we interacted with, I would think you would have tried to make it a better experince. The bartender was attentive and HE privided good service. The food was delicious. Hope you feel better attacking me on here instead of addressing the difficulty we had in your restaurant last night. I have been there before and had no difficulty. I would have probably come back at some point, thinking it must have been just a bad night. Definitely not going...
