Sidelines Sports Pub — Restaurant in Avon

Last night was my worst experience at Sidelines in the many years I've been a customer. The bartender took our drink order and immediately asked to keep our card for a tab, without even offering us food menus. When I asked for a menu, she brought the receipt for the two drinks and asked us to pay for them before we could even order food. I told her we'd prefer to close the check after placing our food order, but she again asked to hold my card. While I eventually agreed, I've been coming to Sidelines for over ten years and have never encountered this practice.

Throughout the evening, she did ask about refills. When it was time to pay, she presented the check and asked if we'd like to use the card we'd given her or pay cash. I noticed a QR code on the receipt and opted to pay that way, including a 20% tip, to expedite the process.

As we were leaving, the bartender began shouting, "You didn't pay!" repeatedly. I approached her and asked her to clarify, as we were in a crowded bar and I wanted to be sure I'd heard correctly. I explained that I had paid via my phone and suggested she check the system. She then gave us a thumbs-up, but offered no apology for the public embarrassment.

I've always loved Sidelines because the food is excellent and the bartenders are typically friendly. Having worked as a server for five years, I would never treat a guest in this manner. A diverse bar. Not a bad place to come get a drink and relax for awhile or come with a group. And when I say group I mean I would have no more than 8 people or it could possibly get a little crowded, depending on the day. They have a large floor space for tables so you could hold a party of 50 here during the week, but during the weekend that would cause an issue unless you got a reservation. Dance floor is small, could be bigger, they have the room. The menu selection is small. But I feel that's appropriate for a bar. Your not dining out at a restaurant, your here to grab a bite maybe a lunch and then have something to drink. You have to try the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich, after a regular suggested it I tried it, and it is amazing. Smokers welcome. As this sits inside Avon so you can smoke inside. Newly renovated, it was needed, they added garage doors that they do open on warms nights so that smokers can enjoy a quick tug while non-smokers can remain on the dance floor, pool table, or seated. The bar tenders are amazing and so are the servers. Tip them well!! Great atmosphere, the vibe here is one that is relaxing and at the same time makes you want to make new friends. My wife and I have had lunch at sidelines off and on since it opened we stopped in today 6/17/2024 around 11:30-11:45 for lunch 1 other customer in the bar, I was greeted by a lady server that seemed to be upset we were there, I ordered 3 Mountain Dews as our son was meeting us there as well. We sat for 30 minutes before she seen fit to take our order we ordered the nacho appetizer and all of us had cheeseburgers with fries the appetizer came out about 3-5 minutes before the meal. I had to get up and start towards the bar with all 3 of our drink cups she did intercept me before I got to the bar she brought our refills and walked away so I walked up to the bar and asked for the check she gave it to me and it was $53. And change I laid $70.00 down and walked away no thank you ** you no offer of change nothing. The burger was good but the fries were black and I mean black you could taste the burnt.Rest assured we won’t be back. Owner if you care check your cameras it won’t be hard to figure out as there were the 3 of us at a table and 1 other lady at the bar drinking. I gave you the time and date. A $15.00 tip was a very good tip and yes I am a bigger person then your server if you want to...
