This was the first time I ordered from AJK. I ordered Mongolian beef and fried rice, wonton soup, and egg rolls.
The wonton soup was nothing like wonton soup that I have eaten before. It had shrimp, zucchini, carrots, mushrooms, water chestnuts, and big slices of what I suppose was to pass for chicken and beef. Nowhere on their site did it explain this was not traditional wonton soup. It tasted like fish from the shrimp, the meat lacked the texture of chicken or beef and was mushy, and I have no idea what water chestnuts were doing in there. It had one wonton in it that was inedible. It was so overcooked that it broke into pieces. I didn't finish the soup.
The egg roll tasted like it had been fried in the same oil as some sort of sweet donut dough. Egg rolls should not have a sweet taste to their wrappings, but these did. The cabbage, or whatever vegetable was used, was chewy and made me feel like I was a cow chewing my cud. It took forever to chew a bite. I didn't find any meat, but even if I did, I wouldn't have known what it was.
The Mongolian beef suffered as well. Extremely salty with little other flavor, the meat, again, was lacking in texture. It was as if they colored soy protein to look like meat and stuck it in the dish. Massive pieces of green onion (not edible as it was chewy) were mixed in with some other green vegetable which were, again, hard to chew.
The last disappointment was the fried rice. All that they had done was taken their white rice, thrown some soy sauce in for color, passed it quickly once through the wok, and put it into the container. No vegetables, seasonings, or eggs were used.
I usually don't write such critical reviews, but this whole experience that cost me $22 was awful and somewhat offensive. That they could pass this off as Chinese or American Chinese food doesn't say much as to their respect for their diners. If you like it, good for you. I'll be staying...
Read more7/27 Bf just got home with house fried rice for me and I find a piece of metal in it. Looks like something from steel wool maybe.
Our beef fried rice was hard and in lumps and our sweet and sour pork was over cooked and basically like fried jerky. My duck fried rice wasn't in fried rice it was white rice and I'm assuming that's because they messed up the fried rice. But it tasted alright and my egg rolls and cheese puffs were good. Pretty disappointed because we spent almost 100 so I could just chill with Chinese food and movies for my bday and more then half of our food was either undercooked or overcooked. We won't go there after they just open ever again. Apparently you gotta wait a few hours after they open to make sure they make your food right. My boyfriend called and a man said he knew about the rice and something about to much water in it. If you knew then why did you give it to us????? Said they'd make it right the next time we ordered...
Read moreHave been coming here for years, even though now we live quite a distance. It is simply THE BEST Chinese food that we have found, with incredible portions and good prices, especially for their lunch special daily from 11-3!!! We've tried many other places, and nothing compares to AJK!!! WOW, was there this past Saturday and tried the sweet/chili wings; INCREDIBLE!
I don't know what this people were on who gave 1, 2 or 3 star reviews. We have been coming here for over 10 years, and it is THE BEST Chinese food; never been disappointed and so reasonable as lunch specials are $4 to $5 less than other less than mediocre restaurants. We've yet to hear anyone complain while there at lunch or dinner time. Believe me, we've tried at least a dozen other places only to be miserably disappointed!!! It's AJK all the way, and we've introduced many others to them and everyone loves it and...
