Food is not rational. Food is culture, habit, craving and identity. Without further ado let’s begin this new review. Café Cultura is a new contemporary Mexican Cafeteria that offer breakfast and lunch. They are located in the historic W. Route 66 section of Azusa. They bring coffee from Chiapas, dishes from all over the Republic. They are more than a café, they are “Café Cultura.” I arrived on a cloudy Sunday late morning to grab breakfast. Given that they are new and popular, I was expecting a long wait list. Interior atmosphere and design were well conceived infused with Mexican culture and music. It kinda reminds me of my childhood growing up in the barrio. Anyways, I waited a few minutes in line before I reached the order counter. I was warmly greeted by Alyssa, young attractive staff, and she took my order. I ordered a Roast coffee, OJ and Abuelita Pancakes. She informed me that it may take an hour to get a table and/or food and I was flabbergasted but conceded. Luckily, there was a table with four seats that opened up at the back patio. Thus, I took it with the staff’s blessing. Lol. After a minutes of waiting a female staff brought my drinks. Shortly, my pancakes were delivered to my table. The hour wait has already become a myth. Their Mexican roast coffee and Oj were good. Similarly, the Abuelita Pancakes (aka chocolate pancakes) were soft, fluffy and tasty; it’s syrup has good viscosity and sweetness. I love that their background music are the kind of Spanish music (e.g., Tuyo) that I tend to listen to. I truly enjoyed listening to their music as I devour my pancakes. Prices seem reasonable for the high quality food/drink. Staff (Alyssa and waitstaff) were very assiduous, warm, obsequious and followed health protocol. Free Wifi available. Parking is easy. In this voluminous review, I enjoyed my experience and food/drinks. Therefore, I highly recommend Cafe Cultura and will...
Read moreI’ve come to the conclusion the optimistic side of me says café cultura has potential. My idea of having good chilaquiles in red sauce and a cafe de la olla ARE NOT IDEAL WHILE FIVE CEILING FANS ARE RUNNING WITH BOTH PATIO AND FRONT DOORS OPENED. KEEP IN MIND ITS A WAS A COOL 50 DEGREE MORNING EARLIER. A good restaurant should be proud to serve HOT CAFE DE OLLA AND WARM TO HOT CHILAQUILES NOT COLD FOOD. Keep in mind in the LA area Mexican Restaurants with HOT CAFE DE OLLA AND WARM TO HOT CHILAQUILES are a dime a dozen this place did not make the cut. Going forward I won’t be back any more. I’ve had the LAST COLD CHILAQUILES IN RED SAUCE WITH A COLD CAFE DE LA OLLA! I moved three times in the inside dining area looking for a better location could not get away from the constant circulation of cold air from the five fans and two open doors. When I spend my hard earned money and spend valuable time to patronize a small business It should be more considerate have higher standards BETTER DINING ENVIRONMENT for serving HOT FOOD THAT STAYS HOT LONG ENOUGH FOR ME TO CONSUME IT....
Read moreNOT true Mexican food is served here, the food served is inspired and Americanized. You pay first and then get your food served to you. I highly recommend not leaving a tip until you try the food first and experience their service. The Cafe de Olla was the worst I've ever tasted and they offered no refills. It was very bitter, acidic, needed more cinnamon and lacked Piloncillo. I ordered my eggs over medium and I recieved over hard. We ordered a side order of chicken and got 4 tiny slivers of chicken for $4.99. The potatoes had no flavor and were a mixture of uncooked, overcooked and soggy. Very unappetizing. Once we received our food we never got serviced again. There's a huge sign outside stating in Spanish and English how they pride themselves with Mexican culture and the quality of their food, sadly none of it is true. Azusa has alot more way better true Mexican Restaurants. Please spend your time and money at one of those and not at this place. I'm very upset to have spent my hard earned money at this poor excuse of a...
