Don't want to be that Debby downer review but I've only had 2 experiences here at this restaurant. My 1st one was years ago back in 2018 and that experience wasn't bad at all. Food and service back in 2018 was good. Now flash forward to my most recent visit and it appears the restaurant isn't what I remember it once being. It was dead inside. There's silence, no good lighting and no life to the employees either. They didn't even come off that they wanted to be in the establishment at the time I was there with my family. The restaurant is many years old and needs to be revamped. I'm all in for keeping local business alive but they need plenty of upgrades. Lastly, the food was flavorless. Huge quantities with low quality and no flavor at all. I had children to order simple chicken nuggets for and those nuggets looked very unappetizing and burnt. For me it was a waste of money. You can't give restaurant pricing and lack quality of food served. I honestly feel I was overcharged at the rate. My reciept didn't even break down how the food was charged but either way it was a waste of money and the atmosphere was lifeless and dark which left me wanting to leave quite fast. I also noticed they have some odd t-shirt hung up inside their business with some issues toward politics and that doesn't look good for any business. I hope things get better here but I don't think I'll return...
Read moreI remember going to this place many years ago and remembered how they were always busy. I decided to see how things are these days and if the food has changed much. The outside is pretty aged and the lot needs repair but, I wasn't going to judge a place by exterior appearances. Walking in I was immediately greeted by a friendly face and the smell of good food. So far so good. The menu had a good variety and gave me plenty of options I liked. My friend ordered the Caldo de Res and I always try the beef enchiladas when trying a new Mexican restaurant. I like to judge whether the sauce is home made or the canned variety. It was home made. We were both very happy with our meals. Caldo was about a seven score and enchiladas about an eight score out of ten. Large bowl of Caldo had plenty of meat and veggies. Enchiladas hot and covered in cheese and sauce fresh out of the salamander. Service was very attentive and made us feel welcomed and not afraid to chat. Overall, I can say I'll be happy to consider them next time I'm in the area and hungry. They deserve to be busier...
Read moreBeen going to Casa Munoz since I was a child. Best restaurant in town. I remember being a young little man watching Joe walk around and ask everybody how the food was. And OMG that salsa.....some people say it's to runny. No way man it's the best salsa in the world. It has such a unique flavor. I can drink that stuff. even after years of the same waiters and waitresses Everytime I went they would still never spill the beans on the salsa recipe. It's like a chili based salsa not tomato. Anyways best shredded beef ever best enchilada sauce ever. Everything they offer is worth a try. Casa Munoz is a Bakersfield institution. I hope they never go anywhere and the younger family generation keeps it going for my kids to come.im not sure but I know the Munoz family is deep in Bakersfield history. I think Joe's other family members ran other Bakersfield favorite Mexican style restaurants. Ok I've said enough. Thankyou to the whole Munoz...
