This is my favorite, bar none, Mexican restaurant ever. We go here at least weekly, if I have a birthday or occasion, this is my choice. We met friends for lunch today, four people total, we ordered the smooth guacamole got the chunky, no biggie. We asked for a replacement and they brought the creamy but no extra chips, we had to ask for extra chips. Ok, ordered two double margaritas blended with salt, one regular margarita blended with salt, and one regular margarita on the rocks with salt. We got two double non blended margaritas, and the one on the rocks had no salted rim. We got 3 out of 4 drink orders right. If you go to Mexicali on a regular basis, their drinks are expensive. I’m ok paying the price but please bring what we order. We asked for separate checks but asked that drinks be put on our tab. Got the check on one tab, everything on our tab. Now our lunch tab was $225 which is kind of up there without a tip. We just don’t habitually spend $225 plus tip on lunch but if we do, we expect excellent service, excellent food, and an elevated dining experience. This was nothing that I would expect from this establishment that I have loved for years. If your service and quality continues to decline, we will lose the last of the Mexicali restaurants. Please remember Stella, Ruben, Luis, and the old time servers that brought personality to your dining experience. It all makes your restaurant above just a regular Mexican restaurant. Please do better so us loyal customers can continue to enjoy your restaurant. These hiccups are inexcusable at 1:30 non...
Read moreDON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY AT THIS PLACE! THE FOOD SUCKS & IS OVER PRICED!...was traveling south through California and stopped in Bakersfield for the night. I was very hungry after most of the day on the road. I searched for a Mexican food restaurant and found the Mexicali Restaurant very close to the hotel I was staying in so I walked 2 minutes (less than 300 feet) to the restaurant and ordered 2 (2 taco) dinner plates to go with a salad for my wife and myself. THEY MADE ME WAIT MORE THAN 20 MINUTES. When finally a staff emoyee asked me "have you gotten your food yet?" So I told him "no". He then pardoned himself and said "let me see what's going on". Then the waitress/cashier brings me my food saying "oh! Here's your food". I then walked less than 300 feet back to my hotel and experienced COLD, SOGGY TACOS WITH COLD BEANS AND RICE, NO EATING UTENSILS AND NO NAPKINS ALL FOR $45.00!!!!!! I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE DISAPPOINTED AND THEN TASTED THE FOOD.... IT WAS BLAND, WITHOUT FLAVOR AND LACKED SEASONING AND THE SALSA TASTED LIKE CATSUP SAUCE.... I WALKED BACK WITH THE FOOD STUFFED BACK IN THE BAG AND TOLD THEM "I'M LIVID" THEN THE OWNER TOLD ME TO STOP BEING RUDE. I TOLD HIM 'DON'T PUT ME DOWN" AND DEMANDED MY MONEY BACK..... TERRIBLE SERVICE ... BAD FOOD... AND A CONDESCENDING...
Read moreThis place is great for a laugh. It is like stepping into a 1960 Mexican restaurant on a movie set. As you walk in, you can see The bar spills into a waiting area near the front door. The furniture is dark Spanish wood, set in a Ranch House decor. We were seated, and handed an oversized 1960 style menu incased in plastic. As I looked around, I noticed the female waitresses wore bright colored skirts with heavy makeup, as the male counterpart wore white shirts-black pants. At this point I was looking for the cameras. The room was filled with old white people. I was waiting for Bob Hope to appear. The menu was limited. When our food arrived, my companion’s plate was cold and mine was so hot I could not touch it. After 6 minutes of trying to flag down our waitress, I finely got the maître d's attention. A few minutes later our waitress returned with the food. My Mexican companion requested some pico de gallo. We were told they did not have any. When we left, we stepped into the bar. lots of people having a good time. We should of gone to the bar first. The experience was delightful; the food was bland. You may enjoy this restaurant, if your Old...
