Honestly, I was unhappy when Bluegrass moved, because there are a shortage of good restaurants in Fed Hill. I'm much happier now though, because I think AJ's was an improvement on the former occupier of the space.
We walked down one night for dinner, and sat at the bar. We had some cocktails. I had the Hanover Street Mule, and my girlfriend ordered the Blue Basil. I liked my drink very much, and unfortunately the bartender informed us that the blueberries required for the Basil were not available, so she had to make another choice. She got the Willow instead. We were both very happy with our drinks. They were well made, and tasted great.
For dinner, I had the Snapper Tacos, and my girlfriend got the Short Rib Tortellini. They were both great dishes, and we were very happy. The only issue on this visit was the bartender. He just seemed super out of it, and became very inefficient as the restaurant got more and more busy. I don't think there were an exorbitant amount of people there, he was simply not that great of a bartender. At times he would stand in the corner and zone out for a couple of minutes, and we definitely wanted to order another drink, but he was so spaced out that we simply got tired of waiting and finally asked for the check. When he brought it, we put our card in the book and literally waited another fifteen minutes for him to realize that it was there. That experience marred a really good visit otherwise, but we loved the food and drinks so much, that we opted to give them another chance.
We recently went back for lunch, and were extremely happy. Their bottomless mimosas were a great value, and the food was excellent. I had the Crab Cake Benny, and could not have been happier, and my girlfriend had the Short Rib Benny and it was really good as well. Fortunately we had a wonderful server this time, and I think the service the prior time may have just been a fluke. I plan to...
Read moreI am not sure how to rate this place because I have visited twice (In one week). I visited on a Tuesday around 4 pm. We sat outside and the food was absolutely phenomenal! The food was so great my mom suggested that we take her there 4 Mother's Day brunch. I decided 2 take her there early so that we could get a seat inside because I knew it would be cold that day. We got a seat at the bar. The staff were great, but the food that day was horrible. Be mindful that the menu changes according 2 the time. On Mother's Day we had to select from the brunch menu. I ordered French toast that tasted more like just plain 'o cardboard toast. My daughter ordered waffles and chicken and the chicken was battered processed chicken u buy from the grocery store but worst. My mom ordered crab cake benny and although she did not enjoy the porch egg, she said the crab cake was delicious. The staff especially Lauren, our waitress, was extremely gracious and attentive. HOWEVER when we went on the Tuesday before the food was DELICIOUS! We ordered the crab cake egg rolls...There were 4 on a tray. I ate two which filled me up. 4 their meal, my husband & daughter ordered subs. My daughter ordered a chicken philly sub and my husband ordered a shrimp po boy. All of it was great but the po boy literally had a party going on in my mouth....It was absolutely great! I would select this place again but during dinner. Oh the parking is horrendous so be prepared 2 circle the block a few times and be prepared 2 read the same signs (that seem like u have 2 be a rocket scientist 2 understand) a thousand times Also, the day that u go hopefully it is not trash day. We went what seemed like the day before trash day and caught a wonderful wiff of trash yet even though we sat outside it did not bother us at all. The...
Read moreI WILL NEVER BE VISITING THIS PLACE AGAIN. I chose to eat at this place because of its convenience in distance from a friends house. Upon entering I waited at the host/hostess table for 5-10 minutes because we wanted a table, instead of sitting at the bar. Once we realised no one was coming to seat us, we approached the bar to ask the bartender if we could get a table. At that time a couple seated near the bar mentioned that the seats at the bar were open and we could sit there. Thus, we decided to just sit at the bar.
We sat at the bar 10-15 minutes while several bartenders walked by and didnt even look in our direction. They didnt acknowledge that we'd sat down at the bar. They didnt say "We'll be right with you." Nothing. Finally someone comes over and speaks, and I mention we've been waiting for 10-15 minutes. He responds, not "I'm sorry, we're just sort of busy", not "we apologize but we can help you now", but "Nahhhhh I dont think it's been that long buddy."
This first acknowledges that we have indeed been waiting for quite some time. Secondly, to not offer any sort of apology and only the perception that "we dont care" was awfully rude. We decided to leave and walked to Ryleighs Oyster bar which is a much better place. Where we received service immediately.
I never really write reviews but this was by far the worst experience I've had out of the all bars I've visited in Bmore. If you are thinking of going here, dont. Go somewhere else. I can offer better places to go. I dont want to make it a race thing, but it should mentioned that we were the only two black patrons "at that time."...
