Double standards maybe (sub racism)
I give three stars because of the following. I've been coming here for a while, I am a black Army service member and brought my brother here who is Filipino he signed up and came back from basic for a couple days. I brought my mother here for her first time to try it and she loves it. The food is great the setting is clean and comfortable.
However I am not a bias person so I am compelled to make this review as I sit here in the restaurant with my mother. I am disappointed in the service we received today, we ordered our food which is in small portions before a group of 4 ladies 3 whites One asian. They all ordered large portions but were almost completely served before us considering they ordered after us and provided their large side orders before us, I baffled as to how this can be. I watched as they served these ladies one after the other while it takes my mother and I much longer than necessary to get ours. If we ordered small portions we should have been served first. To me it seems they put this group of white and asian girls before my mother and I even though we ordered before them. Now I must wrestle with myself weighing my options to come back or not. I might have to run a social experiment to concrete this. I also applied for a job here but sinced I called and inquired I was never considered at all maybe because I have a non American or European accent considering I speak clear proper English yet I see white female servers and Hispanic cooks. The irony
I am not ashamed to say I think this place holds...
Read moreI have been going to samos (greektown) for 40+ years...they are away on their 2 week vacation which happens every year. I was in the mood for some Greek food so I drove 45 minutes into the city..I ordered from samos canton figuring it was all the same....boy did I figure wrong...I ordered what I always order and it was about the same price but boy was it not the same food...lets start with the 2 bowls of avgolemono soup...it was very thin and tasteless and they gave me 2 cups....I questioned this before I left and was told..IT IS A BOWL...When I got home I realized my whole order was wrong...BUT WAS IT??? Not according the the manager that I called after viewing my whole order...she said they are aware that their soup is 8 and 12 ounce, not 12 and 16 like Oldham st....I POURED MY "BOWL" OF SOUP INTO A BOWL, IT FILLED HALF THE BOWL!!! ..then I questioned my shrimp souvlaki platter....I asked where was my second shrimp skewer? She said it only comes with 1, I then asked where was my small Greek salad? She said it doesn't come with their platters....their shrimp wasn't as good and roasted potatoes had no garlic cloves and no flavor.....so I just paid just under $30 for 2 bowls of soup which were actually cups and a shrimp skewer platter with only 1 skewer and no salad???....THIS IS THE SAME PRICE!!! I CAN'T BEGIN TO TELL YOU HOW DISCONCERTED THE MANAGER WAS WITH MY CALL. I ALSO CAN'T BEGIN TO DESCRIBE MY DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!!! WHEN MR NICK GOES ON VACATION.....NO...
Read moreSuper disappointing. We have been eating at Samo’s Greek Island Grill for years. We have used them dozens of times for catering corporate events. Today, we came with a group of our leaders. Seating was a bit tight, and one of the other customers had to stand while waiting for a carry out order. One of the guys with our group politely offered his chair to the man standing and went outside to grab an extra chair so he could be seated at our table. I’m not sure if it was a manager or the owner, but he rudely interrupted our conversation, and told us that the chair we were using was an outside chair and needed to be taken outside immediately. My wife was very apologetic (as was everyone in our group), the manager/owner continued to caustically demand the removal of the chair even as we were trying to get it back outside.
I waited a few moments and pulled the manager/owner aside. I politely explained that I would like to offer a suggestion on a better way he might handle a situation like that in the future. I was in no way rude or disrespectful. My hope was to give a bit of perspective because we love the food at Samos and hoped to give some insight that might be constructive for future interactions. The manager/owner was even more rude in this encounter. I will never be back to Samos, and they will no longer receive our corporate catering business. Unnecessary outcome based on the...
