We recently visited Bandon, Oregon, to celebrate my mother’s 69th birthday. Coming from Crescent City, CA, we were excited for a special meal, particularly scallops—a delicacy we’d talked about all week. We had high hopes that The Loft, with its glowing reviews, would deliver. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we imagined.
Bandon’s seaside charm welcomed us with its quaint shops and bustling harbor. Upon arriving at The Loft, we found a lively atmosphere, happy patrons, and a reasonable 20-minute wait. However, disappointment struck as soon as we sat down and discovered there were no scallops on the menu. We adjusted and took the server's enthusiastic recommendation of the fish and chips while I opted for a Reuben sandwich.
When the meals arrived, my Reuben was flavorful, and I had no complaints. However, my mother’s fish and chips were another story. The fish was overwhelmingly fishy, dry, and unpleasant—the worst we’ve ever had. Hoping to salvage her birthday meal, I tried a bite myself but regretted it immediately. The strong, off-putting taste lingered, defying even the boldest attempts to cleanse my palate. My mother’s special day was tainted, and the fish and chips went uneaten.
Even the seagulls refused the leftovers when we offered them outside—a clear testament to the quality. While the service was prompt, and the atmosphere lively, the food fell drastically short, particularly given the glowing reputation of this restaurant.
If you visit The Loft, I’d recommend steering clear of the fish and chips. We were left deeply disappointed, and my mother’s birthday was memorable for all the...
Read moreWe’ve been here a couple times now. It has lovely views of the bay in Bandon which is a plus. They have outdoor seating. As far as I can tell, they are not wheelchair accessible and would be tricky to navigate if there are mobility issues. The bathrooms are clean and easy access. The last time we were there, they were completely insensitive to our food allergy. One persons meal came out safe to eat and the other one had to be sent back. They disappeared with the plate and when they finally came back, all they had done was swap out the top bun leaving allergens and cross contaminated food on the plate underneath. They cover the burger buns in butter then grill them toasty. I ordered my burger without cheese and no buttered bun. When they brought it back out the top bun had been swapped for a plain one directly from the bag (the other allergy meal had the bun unbuttered but still toasted), but the bottom buttered and toasted bun was left in place which also contaminated the pickled onions sitting on the buttered side. I’m incredibly disappointed in their complete disregard for their customers health and well being. We never managed to catch the waitress to send it back a second time so ended up eating the fries and the portions of the burger which were possibly safe. We didn’t receive and refills on our drinks. Additionally, they tacked on a mandatory 20% tip for a group of six. We weren’t interested in tipping that high due to our experience, but weren’t able to offer what felt...
Read moreThe loft is upstairs on the second floor. It has indoor and outdoor seating, but it is on the smaller side. So prepare for it to fill up fast during peak season. But it is cozy and comfy. The bartender was also the waitress since it was short staffed. She did an amazing job. She crafted me a drink with my alcohol of choice. It was scrumptious. The food was great. I had the loft burger with a Cesar salad. The dressing was a little heavy for my tastes, but my boyfriend loved it. The burger was tasty and seasoned properly. The boyfriend had the fish and chips special. He still talks about how perfectly the fish was cooked and the tater sauce.....let me tell you about the tater sauce......I do not like cooked fish. I occasionally try it to see if my taste buds will change. This tarter sauce changed my mind. The fish, perfectly cooked and breaded paired with the tarter sauce, was amazing. The fishy flavor was light and breading had great seasoning. The tarter sauce was salty and full of dill flavor with a slight hint of sweetness. I even asked the chef if this was his own recipe or if this flavor is kind of what you get at all places near here. This is his own recipe, and he had no problem giving me the list of ingredients. If the fish and chips are on the menu, definitely order it and get an extra side of tarter sauce you will...
