Title: A Delightful Culinary Journey at Wheelhouse Restaurant & Crowsnest Dining in Bandon, Oregon
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Wheelhouse Restaurant & Crowsnest Dining in the picturesque coastal town of Bandon, Oregon, and I must say it was a truly exceptional experience. From the moment I stepped foot into the restaurant, I was greeted with warm hospitality, a charming ambiance, and a culinary adventure that left a lasting impression.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the Rockfish & Crawfish special. This dish was a masterpiece that perfectly showcased the restaurant's commitment to fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The rockfish was flawlessly cooked to a tender, flaky perfection, while the crawfish added a delightful touch of sweetness to each bite. The flavors were expertly balanced, and the presentation was nothing short of breathtaking. It was a true feast for the senses that left me craving for more.
Another standout dish that deserves special mention is the Dungeonus Crab Cocktail. As a seafood enthusiast, I have had my fair share of crab cocktails, but this one truly stood out. The succulent chunks of Dungeonus crab were impeccably fresh and paired beautifully with the zesty cocktail sauce. Each bite was a burst of flavor that transported me to the ocean with its briny goodness.
Beyond the outstanding food, the service at Wheelhouse Restaurant & Crowsnest Dining was impeccable. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and passionate about their craft. They provided excellent recommendations, answered all my questions with enthusiasm, and ensured that every detail of my dining experience was taken care of.
The atmosphere at the restaurant was cozy and inviting, with breathtaking views of the Oregon coastline. Whether you choose to dine indoors or on the patio, you are treated to a serene and picturesque setting that enhances the overall dining experience. It's the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a memorable meal with friends, family, or a special someone.
In addition to the exceptional Rockfish & Crawfish special and the remarkable Dungeonus Crab Cocktail, Wheelhouse Restaurant & Crowsnest Dining offers a diverse menu that caters to a range of culinary preferences. From fresh oysters to mouthwatering steaks and innovative vegetarian options, there is something to please every palate.
Overall, my dining experience at Wheelhouse Restaurant & Crowsnest Dining was nothing short of extraordinary. The restaurant has a split-level design, with “The Wheelhouse” on the main floor and “The Crow's Nest” upstairs, providing diners with sweeping views of the harbor. The interior is cozy, with wood accents and maritime decor, making it feel like a true coastal getaway. Whether you're seated downstairs or in the upstairs dining area, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for a casual family meal or a romantic dinner.
The staff is friendly and attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and eager to ensure you have a great dining experience. The service feels personal, and it's clear the team takes pride in making guests feel welcome.
The menu at The Wheelhouse is a testament to Oregon's bountiful local produce and seafood. You'll find classic coastal dishes like clam chowder, Dungeness crab, and fresh-caught fish. The chef takes a farm-to-table approach, ensuring that every ingredient shines with freshness and flavor.
Dishes I would recommend, while menu is full of good choices, these are my recommendations. The Clam Chowder is rich and creamy, packed with fresh clams. It’s a must-try. While the Dungeness Crab is a local delicacy, served simply to let the flavor of the crab speak for itself. For a lighter option, go with the Fish Tacos, with perfectly grilled fish, fresh salsa, and a hint of spice. The Pan-Seared Halibut is an expertly cooked dish with a crisp sear and tender, flaky fish. To finish it off with a desert, the seasonal fruit cobbler is a perfect way to end your meal, offering a comforting, homemade feel (if there is any left, seeks out quickly).
A great value, for the quality of the food and the setting, The Wheelhouse and Crow's Nest Dining offer good value. The portions are generous, and the views add to the overall experience, making it worth every penny.
Our overall experience with The Wheelhouse and Crow's Nest Dining is an exceptional choice for anyone visiting Bandon. Whether you're a local or a tourist, the combination of a relaxed atmosphere, delicious local fare, and excellent service makes this restaurant a standout. With its prime location overlooking the harbor, it’s an ideal spot for enjoying a taste of the...
Read moreI'll try to keep this short, though there's much to say. Let's begin with our arrival. 7 minutes standing at the door with severs passing us and not a single nod or acknowledgment. After three it became a 'test'... we stayed to see how long it would take. (I do have to mention that we would have gone elsewhere had anything else been open. Seemed like places either closed between lunch and dinner service or only open for dinner on a Sunday.) My friend went to ask if they were serving lunch or dinner and was 'snapped' at and told someone would be eith us shortly. Ha. Apparently there was a sign on sheet...not visible and no sign instructing us to do so. Finally seated. 7 minutes to get water. We waited 40 minutes for fried prawns and crab and shrimp crepes. The prawns were....ok...the crepes contained zero..not a shred of crab. I pointed this out to our server and was told that they had run out of crab...which I was not informed of. (Would not have ordered it.) They were served in a boat style ramiken which made the crepes completely gummy ... As were were waiting (another 10 minutes) for our bill, after we finally flagged down a passing server to ask for, we saw her pass us with a plate of salad, off of which fell a large piece (and a couple small ones) of dressing laden lettuce. We then watched her step around it and pass it 4 or 5 times before stopping to pick it up. This happened to be the same one that snapped at us earlier, and again when we asked for the tab. This server did bring our tab...she slapped it down on our table, with no words, (as she passed our table on the way to one of hers). We tried to speak, but off she walked...so...we flag her down again and ask to speak with 'our' server. She arrives and we ask if there is a shift/floor manager that we can speak with. Guess what! Big surprise...no manager. The end result was ...we were not charged for the crepes...this review... and we left extremely disappointed after a lovely morning and afternoon. As I'm sure you have surmised by now...we will not be returning. Too bad as we are not 'tourists'. We live an hr and a half away and often visit beautiful Bandon... and bring guests...and share our experiences. So...never, ever again shall we visit The Wheelhouse...
2 stars because food was hot and it wasn't 'our' servers fault.
It was completely...
