My wife and I were celebrating our 26th anniversary tonight and thought “let’s go to Governors”. Our kids were going to have to get their own supper so we gave them money for a certain set of Golden Arches while my wife and I were headed for a wonderful dinner without the kiddos. We remembered how good the food was and how great the experience of having that “home cooked meal” without having to cook is. Understanding that it probably isn’t the best time to risk eating inside, we decided to order online and do a curbside pickup. We looked up the menu and tried to imagine the tastes we were about to experience as we looked at pictures of beautifully plated food. We ordered and paid for our meal, and were happy to see that it would be ready by the time we drove the 30 minutes from our home to the restaurant. When we got there, we only had to wait about a minute before our food came out to us....SCORE! We would soon be enjoying the real items we saw on the menu. After stopping by to get a couple sodas and some plastic forks from a nearby competitor, we pulled into the shopping center parking lot to eat. True, it wasn’t the most romantic setting, but hunger had set in pretty good and it was time to munch. We prayed over the food and opened the containers. There must have been a mistake. Our meals must have been given to someone else. This couldn’t be the meatloaf, potatoes gravy & stuffing My wife ordered. No way was this the broiled Haddock with baked potato and long grain rice I ordered. What sat before us, was some blatant attempt at replicating real food. The meatloaf was thin and dry, like the sole of a traveling salesman’s shoe from the early 50’s. The stuffing looked like a mixture of various playdoh’s sprinkled with oregano for realism. The potatoes were just the right texture from the boxed spuds at the dollar store. My “broiled haddock” left me wondering if the chef had served me filet of pigeon with a spritz of tuna juice. The baked potato wasn’t horrible, but the sour cream was used more out of necessity of flavor rather than garnish. My long grain rice was the perfect consistency to remind you of what it was like to eat paste in first grade. Two sad lumps of sticky, over-salted sadness. Opting out of finishing the main course, we pulled the two pieces of chocolate cream pie from their plastic containers and dove into what was to be the best part of the meal for sure. This was a gigantic slice of whipped cream covered nope in a cheap undercooked pie shell. Thank God we had a laugh as each part of the meal devolved into the physical manifestation of a barely edible science experiment. 5 stars on the rolls though. At least those were fresh and delicious. If I’d have been drinking water, I could have imagined I was in the finest...
Read moreWent here last night 6/18/21 with my fiancé and brother-in -law, We had the worst experience. It all started when we were getting seated, the waitress almost sat us at a dirty booth, while looking at the menu my fiancé asked what one of the pictures were but the waitress had no clue on what it was, we ordered my brother-in-law ordered an omelet, I ordered cinnamon roll French toast w/bacon, and my fiancé ordered “The Capital” which is 2-eggs,2-bacon,2-sausage,home-fries,and toast. She asked for over easy eggs. When we received our food my fiancé’s plate didn’t have the sausage links and her eggs were scrambled, my plate was missing the bacon and I wasn’t given any butter. So after waiting about 8-10 min the waitress finally came back to ask how everything was. I told her about what was wrong and what was missing and also that I needed silverware. She then went back to the kitchen and didn’t appear again until another family came in and she went and took there order. So now it’s been about 15 min that my French toast was sitting there getting cold she then came back to the table with a plate w/2 over easy eggs, 2 sausage links, and my bacon. Still no butter or silverware for me. I looked around and finally got silverware myself from one of the many open tables and now after about 20 min of waiting my butter arrived but obviously it wouldn’t melt on cold food.... my fiancé took a bite of her eggs to find that it was still raw and so was the middle of her sausage links . Needless to say that was the end of it for us. When our waitress came back I let her know what was up and that I wanted to speak to the manager. The manager came to the table asked if we wanted to re order of have our food warmed back up obviously we didn’t want either so he said that since we didn’t want to touch anymore of either plate he took both plates away and asked if we wanted dessert, we ended up looking over the desserts and ordered 2-cream puffs, and 1-cinnamon roll. He didn’t charge us for my fiancé’s meal or the 3 desserts and we came out of there after only paying $25, the desserts were ok but we will never be returning to Governors in...
Read moreWe stopped in on a Tuesday evening around 5 p.m. There was plenty of parking and not much of a crowd in the restaurant. We were seated right away. The dining area is bland with no real sense of atmosphere. Our server, Kia, was there to take drink orders as soon as we were settled. My wife received half a cup of coffee from an old pot because the new coffee wasn't ready yet. Mia brought a fresh cup as soon as the new coffee was ready. The menu is quite limited and more pricey than I expected for this type of restaurant. We wanted to eat dinner but couldn't find anything on the menu that sounded appetizing. I ordered a reuben sandwich, my wife ordered a BLT sandwich, and my two grandkids ordered Mac n cheese and fries. The Mac n cheese was like yellow water with macaroni, and they each had about 6 french fries on their plates. My wife said her BLT was skimpy and pretty much tasteless. My reuben was made with the lowest quality ingredients. I and my wife also received a very small portion of french fries. We were still hungry after eating some of our food, so we ordered dessert. The kids wanted a banana split. I ordered blueberry cheesecake, and my wife ordered chocolate cream pie. The server returned in a few minutes to let us know they were out of bananas. Really? Coffee not made, no bananas, skimpy portions, tasteless food. Not a good combination. Kia fixed the situation by making a big sundae instead. The chocolate cream pie was instant ingredients. My blueberry cheesecake was canned blueberry pie filling poured over cheesecake that should not even be classified as cheesecake. Our dinner check came to $81. We could have gone to a real restaurant for that price. Needless to say, we will not be back at a Governor's Restaurant again. The restaurant deserves a 1 star. I gave it an extra star because our sever was excellent. Kia should be serving at a real restaurant. UPDATE: The owner of Governor's Restaurant reached out to me, and because of his extreme professionalism and integrity, we will give his restaurant another try soon. I'm hoping our bad experience was a...
