The China House Restaurant is located in the 'Sugar Mountain Village' at Banner Elk, NC, along with several other restaurants and a Food Lion grocery store. It's a small place that has an all you can eat buffet with limited selections. They have most of the common chinese dishes you'd expect to find on a buffet, but again they have limited space. You can also order from a menu, as well as place orders to go. The items on the buffet seemed fresh and I believe this is because they only put out small quantities at a time so that the food doesn't sit there and become stale. If you order the buffet, you'll place your food on disposal styrofoam plates and use plastic cutlery. Although the food wasn't bad, it was only average in flavor, nothing spectacular. The interior of the restaurant seemed cluttered and the seating area definitely could've used a good cleaning on the day we visited.
If you are in a hurry and looking for chinese cuisine in this immediate area, then you may wish to give them a try. I'll be looking for a different chinese restaurant with more selections to choose from and a staff that cleans the tables after...
Read moreI don't like to leave overly bad reviews...however this place has really gone down hill. We used to eat here on a pretty regular basis and loved it. In fact we drive about 35 minutes to get here, but tonight was our last time. The place just screams "cheap". No ice water available to drink, the tables were dirty and were "cleaned" with just a rag and water from the sink (no cleaner whatsoever) and the floor was filthy. And when you are charged $7.50 for a buffet for a 4 year old, that's just absurd (she probably ate $1 worth of food) The plastic silverware is flimsier than any I've ever seen, no knives were available so you couldn't cut a piece of chicken without using your teeth. Just a huge letdown from what was once a great...
Read moreDidn't want to deal with wait at bella's and subway had a long line. This place had no one in it. I wonder why? As we walk it was dirty. We still gave it a chance. The lady at the front was rude and no it wasn't her accent. We got the orange chicken and the sesame chicken. I stood there looking towards the cooks. nothing was made fresh. The first couple of bites on my sesame chicken felt sour I figure they maybe threw a little orange chicken sauce. nope, my wife chicken tasted the same. We had been driving all day so ate a couple of pieces. big mistake. We were sick all night. Not sure who they're paying off to keep their permit. I am also writing this the next day so I am not even angry anymore....
