This is a gem of a spot. We ate there twice, breakfast and lunch, both times were phenomenal. The Maine blueberry pancakes had a great flavor with lots of blueberries. The regular pancake was super thick and fluffy. The sausage was topnotch in flavor and cooked to perfection, No drying out or hardness to them. And the toast variety is great; white, wheat, rye, and raisin. They all seem bakery made. The raisin was great. For lunch the Monte Cristo sandwich was balanced nicely with sweet and savory. Lots of meat. The Reuben was the best we've ever had. The main difference, it did not get soggy. They drained the sauerkraut and put the cheese as a buffer for the bread leaving a nice crisp sandwich throughout your whole meal. This is a big win for me. The Smash Burger was ordered by a lot who came in and for good reason. Think 5 Guys burgers taken up a notch. The flavor is really good and not greasy. They are opened until 1pm so make sure to get there...
Read moreSouthgate has been nothing short of the best budget diner in town for many years now, and obviously my favorite. I'm always satisifed whether it be the bang for your buck exceptional plate sizing, the service from any of the wonderful waitstaff, or just the comfortable atmosphere. Considering I've seen the staff themselves eat there on their days off and the Bath PD/FD/EMS eat there regularly, it's safe to say Southgate knows what they're doing. Southgate also offers a food challenge called The Frigate Challenge, consisting of a 12 egg omelet including green peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, sausage, bacon, ham, and cheese, a side of meat, a side of potatoes, and a side of toast. If you're more into the healthy side of things, there are many options for vegetarians and gluten-free folks too! Forever a loyal and...
