My husband and I have been dining at Jim Uridales outstanding “ Mexy” restaurant for many years. We have been here so often , we now know most of the staff by name. Here are a few of our favorites 1. Scallops and shrimp in a mild light green sauce. The scallops are very delicious and cooked perfectly- this entree is a bit more expensive, but it’s so yummy! 2. Grilled redfish served with grilled yellow squash and zucchini adjacent to the redfish. The fish has special seasoning that is slightly peppery, but it’s not too spicy. Grilled onions also are added as a garnish. Bring your appetite for the redfish is almost as long as the plate.3. Shrimp and crawfish tacos. This is one of my husbands favorites 4. Uridales features several vegetarian options such as his “ power bowls”- these are options that he added after visiting California. Though I have not personally gotten this item, I see others ordering them.5. Callais salad featuring tasty large shrimp with salad greens etc. Chicken Chimichanga- this is deep fried flour tortilla encasing delicious shredded chicken with a creamy sauce much like you find in a “ pot pie”- this can be ordered from his Tapas choices. If you’re looking for a wide variety of options ( not just typical Tex-Mex), you will find really yummy food here. They are known for their frozen margaritas. Although they have a full bar, the margarita here is very delicious. You will be greeted with a smile from Tracy, Jonathan or possibly Maria. We have been to all of the local Mexican eateries in Baton Rouge and in other states. By far, Mestizos is top notch food, friendly service and sometimes Y’zell may offer you some Champagne if you’re celebrating a special occasion. We came here for our 50th wedding anniversary. Oh, I failed to mention that it’s no problem if you only speak Espanol. Lastly, we sometimes order a Birria( like a beef cooked for several hours) entree when we want something very yummy to bring home. Their tortilla soup is so delicious too. We love the...
Read moreI have visited a number of restaurant locations in Baton Rouge. This restaurant gave their all! The people could not have been kinder. This is what I think Southern Hospitality should look like!
The restaurant was impeccably clean. The room's ambiance made you feel like the workers cared that you were there... and that makes you comfortable.
It was off the beaten path but the quality of the food ingredients, taste and service made up for everything. They mentioned non-GMO and clean eating. This has been a rarity to hear since moving to Baton Rouge.
There's so many choices on the menu. I have extreme food allergies and they have a menu for vegetarian and gluten free options. I experienced patience from a knowledgeable staff and the owner visited my table. Who could ask for better! They served non-GMO corn chips and salsa. We ordered a side of bean dip. Both had excellent flavors.
I ordered the sweet potato mash bowl as suggested by the owner. I was in heaven with every bite. I was overly full when I left because I didn't want to stop eating the delectable dish!
My only regret is that I didn't take a picture of my meal. It was a wonderful experience. I will return! I...
Read moreJim Mestizo was rude to my mom... enough said.
My mom received an email from Mestizo's saying that entries would only be $14 (still bad price) today for their 14th anniversary. It didn't have times listed, just a date. When we received our check we were charged full price, so my mom went to speak to the manage. He told her it was only for lunch, and she was less than tactful in saying that we would have gone to Coyote Blue's down the street if it hadn't been for the sale. He reluctantly fixed it, but then came to the table with the check and frown, handed it to my mom and said (in front of my dad and myself), "I just wanted to point out that nothing at Coyote Blue's is $14 dollars." My mom asked him to repeat himself and then he did. She told him she liked the food better and he smirked at her and walked off. We obviously won't be going back.
Additionally when I walked in he was chatting with the hosts (the owner) and I had to wait in line behind him to be seated. Hospitality at it's finest. Mr. Mesitzo, a manager of a restaurant needs to be able to take care of anything with a smile... and he certainly should be rude to someones mother at the dinner table. ...
