This is one of those situations where the hype does not quite meet the intended expectation. I hope to explain the review so the management and consumer can understand my 3 stars. Our server was exceptional for this visit. Great people skills and knowledge of the menu. We had a cafe latte and French toast bites to start. The coffee was a bit weak and they provided no spoon to stir in any sweetener. It’s Louisiana and the coffee should have an attitude fitting to stand up to the dairy. This screamed latte no cafe! Paper straws - I really dislike them. I know it’s a green alternative, however, they break down in my beverage (iced water) and they weaken. The server provide plates, and napkins prior to the starter which is a necessity unless you want to feel like your eating from a buffet. The French toast bites are dirty, crusted morsels, albeit for the sides and caramel drizzle. This was done very well. Perfect if the coffee had delivered to its expectation. Our entrees, although edible, were neither visually appealing or as reported by other reviews raving the delights of the Epicurious. The biscuits and gravy, although built up to a pinnacle deserving of an Olympian feat, fell short in delivering the anticipatory glory of mouthwatering exceptionalism. The gravy was a watery mess of broken tears and subpar sausage. The eggs were not fresh and appeared and tasted like premade panned eggs. That’s atrocious if you expect fresh scrambled eggs. They are easy to do. They take 1-2 minutes unless they are done in the French style and creamed to perfection. The fried green tomato was perfect. Crisp, textured, and absolutely a treat along with the bacon. These are however sides to the main dish. Biscuits do not need to be that high to deliver the intended expectation. Too much bread versus gravy. The avocado, salmon toast should have been a key winner in this deflated adventure. The presentation was good. The poached egg, although perfect in cooking was not exceptional in flavor. This may be fine for some, however, your using green straws and so you would anticipate an organic egg that delivers a flavor profile to match this well developed menu item. The salmon used, tasted old and fishy. This really can’t express my disappointment in any words that don’t convey the expletives I wish I could place here. All the other ingredients were perfect minus the flavorless egg and sad, very sad fish. Wrapping it up, great service has to be more than the weak performance of...

My most recent experience on Saturday, October 26, has really turned me off of Ruby Slipper. I joined the waitlist online even though it indicated that the current wait was only 15-20 minutes; it was actually 45+ minutes from that point so they should update their software. We went straight over, 10 minutes away, and the heat in the place was unbearable. They really have to turn the AC down when they are busy. It’s no better waiting out front with the sun beating down on you and when we finally got to a table, that area was also stuffy. Unfortunately, it was further downhill from there. We were seated at a banquet next to a noisy service station where I swear servers dropped utensils into a container in order to make the most noise possible. Also, there was ice on the banquette for which I had to ask for paper towels to clean it so they wouldn’t use an old wet rag. We had the worst server I’ve had in years. Cherea, or something like that, bordered on surly. She needs to find a new occupation because clearly this isn’t it for her. We asked for water while we decided on drinks and food and she actually huffed as she walked away to get it. After taking our order, she returned only to put things down, never speaking, and then we didn’t see her again until the check. One of my companions finally flagged down the hostess for butter and honey for her biscuit because Cherea was too busy ignoring us to do her job. I don’t think the bar is doing much better. I ordered an Autumn Fizz Mocktail that was more candied apples and ice than drink; had no cinnamon sugar rim as stated in the description; and was so sour I had to add sweetener to it to be able to drink it. The cleanliness of the place wasn’t much better. One of my friends returned from the restroom to say that someone piled dirty kitchen mats in the hallway leading to them so I couldn’t use the restroom as I’m in a neck brace at the moment and it was too dangerous. I love the choices and the food at Ruby Slipper but the otherwise, they’re resting on their laurels and I won’t be back anytime soon if ever. There are better, less chaotic choices for breakfast and brunch like Frank’s and Rouj Creole and they have more cheerful and...

I’ve been to this location more than once but this was my first time ordering pick up but it will be my last time ordering pickup as well. While the guy/waiter was packaging my food he was doing a lot of horse playing and almost dropped the plate. Then he checked to make sure it was okay (while he is still laughing and joking) and had to switch out some sauces because one must’ve of was damaged from the constant playing. Then he placed my item back in the bag and didn’t even clean the outside of it. I then waited a bit more to see if he would package the rest but a young lady in the kitchen caught his eyes and forgot completely about my order and disappeared. Then I was approach by 3 different waiters asking my name because they’ve known ive been waiting for a while. It wasnt until a manager (im assuming because he had on a all gray uniform) decided to walk back to where they were packing my order and then he placed the next plate I was waiting for and reach it out to a young woman who gave me my order. The only thing is it was missing my sides, utensils, butter and syrup. I then had to ask her for them and she then placed everything in the bag that I needed. It wasn’t the time that made the experience bad because it was pretty busy and I’m extremely chill but the customer service can use some work and they can work on cleanliness because while waiting for my food I noticed no one was changing out gloves that they used to carry dishes, package orders, and carry items off dining people tables. I’ve never had this problem dining in before so it was shocking to me because this place is usually a vibe. I only decided to keep my food because I didn’t feel like waiting for it to be remade because I was on a tight schedule. I also saw that the people who took care of my order didn’t touch all over everything with those gloves because if that was a issue then I would’ve wanted a refund and took my service some where else. The only reason I’m giving a 2 star review was because of my dining experience was excellent...

Thank goodness for the option to join the wait-list (in Google maps)....whew! The cafe was packed for midday brunch. I don't know if it was because it's Good Friday or if it's like that every day. I joined before I left my house and only had to wait maybe 15 minutes upon arrival and that included waiting to check-in, period, with the hostess. So, everything went smoothly and everyone was polite! My waitress knew the menu and was a pleasure. It didn't take long to get our food, either, considering the crowd. We ordered candy bacon bites, french toast bites, bbq shrimp and grits, and a gulf shrimp omelette with a side of grits (add salt or not). Both main dishes came with a dense but soft homemade buttermilk biscuit and a pat of cane syrup butter. The bacon bites and french toast bites were appetizers but I could have eaten 3 more orders! The french toast bites were like croutons but soft inside. Drizzled with cream cheese icing along a side of pecan praline sauce....d'lish! The BBQ shrimp and grits also had tasso in it. Very good flavor! It's made with a butter reduction but with the tasso sauteed, as well, it looked more like grease. So sop it up or leave it? We left it. By the time you get to the bottom of the grits there's just a pool of it. Not my cup of tea, but, hey. The dish is worth ordering. The gulf shrimp omelette may not look seasoned or may look bland or just have a bit of salt added, BUT the cheese and shrimp flavor it naturally. It didn't leave me looking for more "seasoning". There's a decent amount of shrimp inside on on top. I thoroughly enjoyed the omelette and it's nice size perfectly cooked shrimp! There are other items on the menu that must be tried so another trip another day....until then, I recommend!
