I think anyone local to the Battle Creek area knows the state of Chinese food restaurants. If not, let me help. It's poor. I mean just really not good. POOR!
New China Moon holds up the standard of lousy Chinese food here in BC. We ordered on Christmas Day as typically the only restaurants open on the holiday. The order was not very big. Just a small Bourbon chicken, a small pork chop suey and a small shrimp fried rice.
I should have known ahead of time that this was going to be a HUGE disappointment when walking in and not seeing any Asian people working the counter or back.
The pork chop suey was a complete disappointment and frankly awful. Now, I am a HUGE fan of pork chop suey. Ive been eating it for years and let me tell you.....this wasn't even close. Large chunks of red tinged roasted pork in a brown sauce (wait, did you just say "brown" sauce? Yes!! Ikr? Brown sauce!?!?) with carrots, pea pods, onions and celery. This should be called roasted pork with mixed vegetables. The listing stated "pork chop suey" mind you (not ROAST pork chop suey). First, let's go over exactly what pork chop suey is: thin sliced, fine strips of stir-fried pork, bean sprouts, celery, onion and plus/minus water chestnuts in a white sauce. (WHITE!! NEVER BROWN!) That's it folks. It's not difficult. If you're going to use roast pork, you state that in the menu listing. Completely shaking my head here. Check the picture.....
The shrimp fried rice had a sparse amount of small shrimp. Unflavorful, yellow colored rice that clearly was not seasoned with any soy sauce (or anything else for that matter). I'm not even sure it was fried!! The cook tossed a few frozen peas and carrots for good measure and served it up plain, tasteless and bland.
The bourbon chicken was just chunks of over-cooked chicken thighs in some fairly tasteless brown sauce. That's it! Nothing else. Not a vegetable or even and onion. No breading. Nothing. Now, I'm not a connoisseur of bourbon chicken but that seems lame to me. The taste was absent of anything flavorful.
100% DISAPPOINTING. JUST...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI try to avoid leaving 1 stars, but New China Moon earned it! I've been ordering from here for years and it's not because the food is excellent, but because it is convenient with their delivery service The food at this establishment is average. The Customer service is poor and the management even worse. When my family and I eat here it's usually the same meals every time. The last order we place we altered our order in just the slightest, adding on pork a stick. While dishes our meal, my wife noticed a long strand of hair. I for 1 just can not eat something that's had a strangers hair in it. My wife contacted the manager at New China Moon. Once she had explained the issue, she had then asked for a refund of the item or a replacement of the item. At this point the manager in his own words called her a "liar" and she needed to send photo evidence. She complied with his request and sent a photo of the hair hanging from the center of the meat. After receiving the photo the manager began yelling at her claiming she has called in several times. At this point I had heard enough. I was not going to allow this stranger to yell and call my wife a liar anymore. I had taken over the conversation, I had asked him "when and which meal we had ever called a complaint in on?". He was unable to comply. At this point my patients had grown tried and I told him to just refund the item and we'll never darken their doorstep again. After another few minutes of listening to him point fingers and expell excuses, he finally agreed and refunded the item. I'm not telling anyone to avoid eating here as chinese on delivery at a decent price is convenient. I'm just saying beware, this restaurant does not have the...

Update: October 4, 2020
My family and I have been sick for a few days now and cooking is too taxing for all of us. Plus, there isnāt a whole lot that sounds good or doesnāt upset our stomachs. I ordered shrimp fried rice 2 days ago, miracle of miracles, no upset stomachs to be had. Fast forward to today, none of us are feeling a whole lot better and again, no cooking in our horizon, so I call up New China Moon. At first I only ordered enough for today, but then I realized, theyāre closed on Monday and if weāre still feeling yucky, weāre going to be stuck with figuring something out. I called them back and doubled my order. They were so kind and told us all to feel better soon. I opened my order up and to my delight and surprise, they were kind enough to include some of their fried sugared donuts, still warm from the fryer too. Iāve always recommended them for their food, because itās delicious, now I can add kindness and caring to that. Thank you again...
