September 2019: I took my mother here to for lunch to celebrate her birthday. I've patronized this restaurant twice before. On my last visit they lacked quality and quantity in the food and service. My first visit had excellent food and service along with amazing views of the Saginaw river. Fortunately, Real Seafood redeemed themselves and returned to the superlative food and exceptional service one would expect of this establishment.
All of the following food was superb: Lobster fritters, Lobster bisque, Parmesan encrusted Lemon Sole and the Bourbon Salmon. The waitress, Jamie M., was outstanding and even held the door for my elderly mother when we left the restaurant.
My only negatives is that the blue cheese coleslaw is uneatable and should be able to be substituted for without an up-charge and the rice pilaf is just average. Thanks again for getting it right Real Seafood and making my mother's birthday lunch an enjoyable one.
July 2019: I invited my family here to celebrate my sisters and I birthday since they offer a generous discount on the day of your birthday. I had patronized this restaurant once before and had excellent food and service along with amazing views of the Saginaw river. Unfortunately, this time the lack of quality and quantity in the food and service made me embarrassed for talking this place up.
Positives: Sauteed pecan encrusted chicken Cajun tenderloin tips Creme Brulee Excellent view of the river Clean restrooms and comfortable seating
Negatives: Runny Smoked Whitefish Dip with over-salted/seasoned Tortilla strips Overcooked and tough whole Maine Lobster Overcooked/Dry blackened Swordfish (I only finished half of it) Cold mashed potatoes Blue cheese Coleslaw (very little cheese and too much vinegar) Wilted house salad (up-charge) Mexican corn on the cob (up-charge and small) The hostess was reluctant to seat us upstairs river side. The waiter complained about having to bring items up and down the stairs and said he was "going to get his work out in today."
The management did offer a free desert for the inconvenience of the over-cooked lobster. It still boggles my mind how a pricey place can continue to up-charge for sub par salads or or simple vegetables that come standard in other less expensive establishments. Also, to have non seafood entree's that are excellent but seafood entrees average to poor is just unsatisfactory for a place that specializes in seafood. I may return to accompany someone on their birthday to try it again but would not return for the full price entrees especially the...
Read moreThe service was terrible! The waited did not wear a name tag so I have no idea who he is. He took Half of our tables appetizer order and disappeared. He took the order of the table that got seated after us. He was attentive to their table but not ours (he only had two tables). So I ate my appetizer and the other person did too and we shared with our spouses who didn’t get a chance to order. We grabbed the guys attention and asked to order he said one second. Walked right passed us a few more times, took the other tables order. Folded silverware and then came to our table. We ordered and this was our first time and last. We had questions but he wasn’t polite or seemed to want us to speak to him since he clearly was avoiding us. Our drinks were empty the entire night! They kept refilling naturally from ice because after he took our order left all the plates and menus on our table after we stacked them for him. He just disappeared. Talked to the kitchen and other servers went to the dining room that we can see the door was open and folded silverware and took a water break! I mean we are just stating like anyone else help us! Not one server! Not even the guy with the red long sleeve shirt! Finally we all just had to stop turn and stare and wave him over like hello! We are just sitting here. He took me and my souses plates and left! Went back to talk to others and checked out the other table. The other couple was very upset because he didn’t say one word and they wanted a box and we assumed he was coming back but he didn’t. He asked him for checks and boxes. He brought the check no box. We asked for boxes again and if they had bags he said yes. He brought back boxes and no bag. Then we asked for bag. I mean service was terrible! We were last to leave the dinning room! I mean we were excited to come but we won’t be returning and I won’t be recommending this place! If you are not from bay city do not come! We were the only black couple which I’m used to but I mean our service treatment was appalling! I mean I’m sitting here ready to order he’s talking to the kitchen and staff and only has two tables! I don’t know if he judged our table by us being black but it was rude and I mean I never. For the reputation this place has I expected more but I was so let down! This was terrible and I never got treated so terrible by a server and in my undergrad years I was a server as well, so I’m understanding but he...
Read moreThe service was a bit slow at first and the prices a bit high. The waitress was slow bringing us our drinks and our menus. We went during lunch hours so it made the bill a bit more easy to take when it arrived. We ordered two entrées. Perch, with parmesan tater tots and asparagus. The lobster bisque soup ordered with the perch dinner was extra. We also ordered the pecan encrusted chicken in a mustard sauce, with real mashed potatoes and asparagus. The meal came with free bread which was warm, soft and very delicious. We had two helpings of the bread because we really liked it that much. We had strawberry, lemonade which was prepared by the bartender and it was both tart and sweet and very tasty. The food is ordered via a tablet device, not by a typical laminated fold out menu. So if you're not knowledgeable about computerized devices you may want to bring a guest or guests with you who are tech savvy to help you or the staff there will be more than happy to help you I'm sure. Our food arrived in a timely manner, but when the entrées got to the table, the mashed potatoes were barely warm. The chicken was very good, moist, flavorful. The asparagus tasted bitter. The Bleu cheese cole slaw was absolutely horrible. I took one bite and that was all. I guess you'll have to decide for yourself. I usually love bleu cheese. The perch was prepared with a light batter and pan fried. It was not dried out, nor overcooked. It was wonderful. The parmesan tater tots were excellent! I loved them. I just wish there had been more of them. The lobster bisque was creamy, it actually looked like tomato soup and had little bits of lobster in it. It was really good. We also ordered the Creme' Brule for dessert, but was told they were out of that so we ordered the chocolate fudge cake with peanut butter cream cheese filling.(That is the picture I posted below, half eaten) It was so huge, rich decadent and filling. We couldn't eat it all. For two people at lunch prices, two entrées, one with soup, two beverages, and dessert, the total bill was $63(that...
