Lots of issues with this restaurant. We came for a birthday dinner and felt neglected by the wait staff for most of the night. Very minimal interaction when the wait staff was even there, and not really any small talk from them at all. They give you a fry flight as a starter, which is an interesting choice, but overall not bad. Waited a decent amount of time for the food to actually arrive after we ordered it, and only got checked in on maybe 1 time. When the food came, the prime rib was not that flavorful and was on the lower end of prime ribs I've had. We also got delivered the wrong side (mashed potatoes instead of mushrooms), so we brought this up next time we could get a hold of the wait staff (which was about 5-10 mins after we originally got the food). They took the mashed potatoes back while never really apologizing for it, besides joking that his handwriting is bad and he can't read it. They then brought the mushrooms about 10 mins later which by that time we were done eating already. We waited awhile longer for the bill, and he came over and gave us the checkbook. There was nothing in it. Not a wrong bill, but literally an empty checkbook, so we had to wait even longer to get the actual bill. The lack of attention to pretty much everything in this restaurant is an issue. Our meal took about 2 hours for not even getting any appetizers or desserts. We didn't get the desert intentionally because they took so long with everything else. After we pay we, got a parking validation code, and we noticed that the date expired the day before. So we asked if it would still work, and they said yes it would. It did not. The validation did not work to get out of the parking lot. Every aspect of this restaurant was a let down from what we were expecting, and we would not recommend it to anyone because of the value that you get. When we were leaving, we saw one of our wait staff joking around with the kitchen staff prepping the food, while the manager was walking by. We ended up getting ice cream for dessert at McDonald's instead, and it was a much better experience there....
Read moreIf you loved Shula’s Steakhouse at the Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin Resort as much as we did and you were sad to see it replaced, I have some good news to share. Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina, which took over the space, is different, yes, but much of what made Shula’s so intimate is still there. Yes, the black and white photos of past football glory are gone, replaced with large art pieces. The lighting is a little different, the open sconces updated with sleek, modern lanterns filtered with muslin to soften the light and maintain the mood. But the layout is the same, and most importantly, the impeccable service is just what you’d expect. Friendly, knowledgeable, engaging and eager to make your experience memorable. On our visit, our server, Giuseppe, was tremendous. Always smiling, always projecting a suave, old world grace and charm, always welcoming. We know to ask for him when we return. And the food? Well, believe me when I tell you the steaks might be even better than they were before. The staff will tell you all about the difference in how Bourbon Steak does their meats compared to other high-end steakhouses. I won’t pretend I understand the specifics but I will tell you their 10-ounce filet was one of the best I’ve ever tasted anywhere. The NY strip was excellent, too, but the filet won the night, as it should for the price point. Now, on average, Bourbon Steak is pricier than Shula’s, so be prepared for that. But overall, we couldn’t have been happier with our experience. One last note: don’t leave without at least trying the desserts. The beignets were a little dense, but the sauces they come with were heavenly, and the brûléed basque cheesecake was truly to die for. Taste for yourself,...
Read moreMy wife and kids have been going to the old Shula’s for years and always looked forward to it while we visited Disney or Universal. The last few visits to Shula’s were much less than we had hoped for, especially given the cost. Here in Orlando now with several of my employees on a business trip and decided to try out the new Bourbon Steakhouse. My hope was that Shula’s was replaced due to qualify going down and that Bourbon would get them back to the high level expected from this type of restaurant snd venue. The noise level was very high due to a packed restaurant. Not a big deal. The sides are embarrassingly small but still carry a high price tag. The sides were average at best. Steaks turned out pretty good. All great steakhouses serve yummy hot bread a little before and during dinner. Well, they decided to replace bread with a flight of fries. The fries were decent but HUGE mistake to not offer bread. The service has always been good but challenged this evening due to being so full. The wait staff asked us several times if we are good and if we needed anything. It was as if they knew things are not good but hopeful we were happy. Hate to say it, but when we’re in Orlando and are wanting a high end dinner experience, we will have to find a replacement. I just can’t keep throwing $$$ at this place to be disappointed. Whoever decided to cut the ‘sharable’ sides in half or more, and to cut bread out of their protocol, should re-evaluate that decision quickly. Disney is such a fantastic organization and the hotel is exquisite. It’s only natural that this marquise restaurant would match their high standards or excellence, but it simply does not. ...
