The general manager was loud and obnoxiously speaking to the bartender and a server at the bar about Bourbon Street; the safety of the French Quarter off of Bourbon; and what they planned to drink later that evening. They were so loud I couldn't hear my husband, who was sitting right next to me at the bar. My husband states, "Hey, we can't hear each other." Nothing but sarcasm after that. There was no real apology, and it became so uncomfortable!! The GM didn't say a word to us. The bartender (relative of the owner apparently) made us feel so uncomfortable. We were actually afraid to eat our food and stated such to each other. The ease-dropping bartender jumped down our throats at this point. I believe she stated something along the lines of us "accusing them of doing something to our food and not appreciating us shushing her GM when they were speaking." We got up and left! It was absolutely horrible. The most unprofessional experience of my adult life in any restaurant. The sad thing is, this place has great food. The arrogance and poor service with attitude is what will ruin this place in the Bay. There are far too many choices to eat without attitude and rudeness!
Update: Everyone has a bad day, right? Second chances are my thing. Uncle Joe's was a go-to when my boys were young. Some of my adopted kids worked at Uncle Joe's. Take it from a 4th generation restaurant brat: your food may be incredible but if your service SUCKS you will fail. Service is what people crave. Let's face it, the food scene is bland AF in BSL. What keeps people loyal to down town is...
Read moreOur party of 4 decided to try Uncle Joe's for date night because we had heard so much about their food. Let me start by saying it's Mardi Gras and we arrived just as a parade was ending. Uncle Joe's was definitely busy but the atmosphere was fun and the patrons were all enjoying themselves. One employee, Jenica, was there eating with her family, but she jumped right to help at the hostess stand when she saw how busy they were. We had about a 30 min wait so we got drinks from the bar. Bar staff was on point and so was the variety of drink and beer options. Once we were seated, our server, Danni, was quick, attentive and checked in regularly. We were sat near the kitchen which was great because we got to see the kitchen staff in action and that was like watching a well choreographed dance. Our intent was to sample a variety of menu options. We ordered split baskets of the hot honey, lemon pepper, chipotle parmesan and Buffalo wings, as well as the jalapeño poppers, boudin balls and mac n cheese bites. All were cooked to perfection, flavorful and portions were pwrfect for sharing. We all agreed that the hot honey wings and the poppers were our favorite. For pizza we ordered the Carnivore and the Gourmet white, which were both excellent choices. Considering how busy they were, the food came out quick, hot and delicious. We will definitely be returning regularly! Our bill was probably higher than someone would expect to spend for dinner but that was because we had alcohol. Removing the bar tab, we probably spent about...
Read moreI'm going to break this review down into the good, the bad, and the ugly. First, the good: I gave this place an extra star because my youngest two, 4 and 7, LOVED it. They never enjoy eating out except for dessert. If you look up picky eater in the encyclopedia, there would be their pictures. I always have to bring them home and feed them. Not this time. They ate more than any of my other three kids, 9, 11, and 15. Now the bad; The 9 year old is not unusual to be hard to please, but the 11 and 15 year olds are both human garbage disposals. They eat to the point that I feel guilty about bringing them to buffets. They usually finish everyone else's leftovers. This was the first time since they were little that they had leftovers. My oldest got the Mac n cheese bites. He has never met a Mac he didn't LOVE. He didn't even finish one. And finally, the ugly; Half our food was burnt. Our food came out a piece here, a dish there. It took over thirty minutes from when the first plate hit our table until we got our last item. Somehow, both the first, our pizza, and the last, our chicken bites were very much burnt. Those Mac n cheese bites I mentioned earlier had some that were almost uncooked on one...
